Job Description
The Transfers team is one of the most impactful and business-critical teams at Cash App. We are responsible for allowing customers to move money into and out of Cash App, which means that virtually all Cash App customers use our services. Our team is also critical from a business standpoint because our Instant Cash Out product generates a massive percentage of the overall Cash App profit.
As a member of the Transfers engineering team, you will be responsible for helping our customers get money into Cash App to use all of the products we have to offer (Cards, Stock, Bitcoin, Send Money, etc.). We strive to make transfers fast and reliable at the lowest cost. We delight our customers by making it simple to connect their funding source and automate their movements. Your work will directly influence the success of Cash App and our ability to impact the financial lives of millions of people across the world.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute substantial technical projects with far-reaching business implications.
- Contribute to strategic direction setting and the expansion of the team's roadmap.
- Take ownership of projects from concept to launch, encompassing ideation, planning, and implementation.
- Translate intricate functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design.
- Design APIs and data models within microservice and event-driven frameworks.
- Uphold high development standards through participation in code and design reviews.
- Enhance existing backend systems to match product iteration speed while preserving quality.
- Mentor and nurture the growth of fellow engineers within a rapidly evolving team.
Qualifications
- Remote, but must be located on the west coast (U.S. or Canada)
- 5+ years of software development or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record in end-to-end product/service development, from technical design to delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive within cross-functional collaborative environments.
- Tenacity to identify and address complex system flaws comprehensively.
- Innovative mindset capable of devising creative solutions for intricate challenges.
- Strong commitment to high code quality, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
- Familiarity with technologies including Kotlin, Java Web Services, Hibernate, MySQL, DynamoDB, Kafka, AWS Cloud Services, HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, OkHttp, JUnit, Guice, DataDog, Prometheus, and SignalFx (experience not mandatory).

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
