Job Description
The Activity Team is responsible for the Activity tab in Cash App. We sit at the crossroads of building a product and a platform. As a platform team, we focus on building reliable, flexible interfaces for other teams that will allow Cash App to continue to scale and surface relevant data about a customer’s past actions. As a product team, we focus on increasing trust without customers by presenting them with the reliable, relevant, and up-to-date information in the Activity tab.
You will be a foundational member of this team who will help us work with teams across Cash App to define and refine these new interfaces, ensure that our services are performant, and work collaboratively with product and design to present our users with information they can inherently trust and understand. This role is a backend role, but we work within a cross-functional team!
Qualifications
You will:
- Design software that will be used by teams across Cash App to surface relevant information to users
- Work with various product engineering teams to understand their needs and design appropriate data models and APIs to fit those needs
- Get your hands dirty and build backend systems in Kotlin
- Plan and support migrating to the new services we are building
- Work with design on our own team to iterate on ways to present complex data to users
You have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience engineering backend systems, including knowledge of designing APIs and a foundational understanding of relational databases
- A desire to work on problems of abstraction that require collaboration with several teams

Additional Information
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
