Job Description

As a senior software engineer on this team you will work on building remarkable software solutions to solve security problems! You’ll work on security visibility projects, serving Block’s developers by building engaging products that drive security risk visibility, and mitigation tools for product owners and their managers. 

This is a complex problem space, with the following long term mission:

  • Make it easy for the Security Organization to highlight security solutions, findings and best practices to the appropriate product owners

  • Make it easy for developer teams to mitigate product risk by supporting their current workflows and helping them make an informed decision about when and how to reduce risk

  • Surface data & metrics to measure how our rate of risk reduction is keeping up with new product initiatives in order to inform future prioritization for the Security Organization collectively

Note that previous security experience is not a requirement for this role

 

About the team:

The Security Command Center team is responsible for building and operating services and tooling that provide transparency into application risk across Block. We believe that security products should provide a great customer experience and work across the front-end and backend stack to enable that. Examples of services we build and maintain include:

  • ‘Last mile delivery’ issue management application for surfacing, tracking and allowing developers across Block to resolve actionable security issues

  • Security ‘scorecards’ service for surfacing risk score in various security domains

As a senior engineer on this team you will:

  • Identify, scope and lead large technical projects supporting the above objectives

  • Build end-to-end internal user facing features for product owners

  • Influence our product roadmap by identifying the features that will drive user engagement and experience 

  • Collaborate with a team of Software and Security Engineers to serve our product teams

  • Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards

  • Evolve and improve existing backend systems to meet product iteration velocity while maintaining a high quality bar

  • Mentor other engineers and help to cultivate a fast growing team

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software development or equivalent experience

  • Comfortable with backend technologies and experience in building backend services

  • Experience building user facing features and owning the whole stack.

  • Demonstrated technical initiative and leadership on previous projects

  • Ability to exemplify engineering best practices within yourself and export those to your team

Nice to have (but not required!)

  • Broad understanding of or interest in information security problems or application security

  • Comfortable with front-end technologies (Typescript and React is a plus!)

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
