Job Description

The Add-On Platform team for Square Point of Sale is building the next generation of Square by introducing the Add Ons ecosystem for Point of Sale. With this ecosystem, we are empowering merchants to tailor their point of sale to the needs of their business, and creating a foundation for third-party developers to incorporate unique value propositions into Point of Sale easily and securely. The first and third-party addons will allow us to grow the Point of Sale application to several businesses, and unlock powerful new tools for our merchants. You will report into the engineering lead who oversees all mobile development for the Add-On Platform team.

You Will:

  • Design architecture with company wide possible effects, balancing our needs, performance, and maintainability
  • Be proficient in Swift and/or Objective-C for development (we use both).
  • Enjoy working on mobile apps at all levels – from networking up to user interfaces and whatever's in between.
  • Build high availability and resilient systems which can accept and report payments no matter the network or device conditions.
  • Collaborate with iOS, Android, and Server engineers to ship features.
  • Work with product managers and designers to refine and define product design.
  • Respond to customer feedback to improve our products.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 5+ years of software development experience, with 4+ on iOS.
  • A passion for product development and seeing results
  • Experience creating readable, pragmatic code
  • Curiosity
  • An appreciation of simple, practical solutions
  • Eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others
  • Experience with SDK or Framework development.

  • Swift and Objective-C
  • Square's open source iOS frameworks: Workflow (state management), Blueprint (declarative UI)
  • UIKit, CoreAnimation, and CoreData
  • Unit tests, snapshot tests, integration tests
  • Service APIs and Protocol Buffers
  • Bazel for our build environments.
