Job Description
The Product Security Engineering team identifies and mitigates unacceptable risk to Square’s products in order to protect our users. We engage in cross-functional collaboration across a wide range of organizations in order to implement security mechanisms into the company’s tech stack. We rely on data to scope problems, work with multiple teams to understand what solution will make the best impact, and drive the delivery from design to implementation.
We are excited to hire a Senior Software Engineer, Security to lead our efforts aimed at protecting Square’s APIs. In this role, you will work with different groups across the company to address a set of ambiguous security challenges by collecting and analyzing data, proposing solutions in the form of engineering designs based on the findings and own the delivery.
You will:
Identify conceptual security risks across our API endpoints in the area of authN, authZ as well as network level attacks
Scope and design solutions that protect Square’s APIs throughout their lifecycle
Implement reliable software within our network stack or related systems
Influence stakeholders across teams to get buy-in for your solution
Evaluate potential vendor solutions when applicable, make build vs. buy recommendations
Act as a force multiplier when driving projects in a collaborative environment
Qualifications
You have:
The ability to break down complex projects into components or milestones that can easily be completed by other engineers
Software development experience in at least 1 language like Java, Go, or C++
Experience leading or overseeing large projects from start to finish
Built and operated highly available distributed systems
Nice to have:
Deep knowledge about network & internet security challenges and how to address them
Operated and debugged proxy technologies like Envoy or similar (e.g. Nginx, HAProxy)
Familiarity with some of the following technologies we use every day: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC, Envoy, GraphQL
