Job Description

Job Purpose:

Address transportation needs for goods at both national and international levels through strategic planning, provision of transportation resources, and compliance with customs clearance formalities for import and export shipments, all based on an approach focused on optimizing economic, logistical, and administrative resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate import activities for goods and/or materials from shipment through arrival at their final destination.
  • Oversee compliance with customs authority requirements to fulfill import clearance formalities, including non-tariff regulations and restrictions.
  • Track shipments at all times to accurately estimate material arrival at the plant.
  • Properly manage transportation providers to ensure services are delivered on time and in accordance with business needs (ground, sea, and/or air).
  • Ensure proper packaging, design, handling, and packing of materials to guarantee damage-free delivery upon arrival.
  • Perform physical and document review of expense accounts and freight invoices; these are reviewed by the Traffic and Logistics Coordinator and approved by the Area Manager and/or according to the DoA, before submission to Finance (Accounts Payable) for processing and payment.
  • Provide daily follow-up and updates to the Import Report, including updating corresponding KPIs.
  • Prepare monthly logistics expense forecasts, including transportation companies and customs brokers.
  • Identify sanctioned individuals and/or entities; ensure compliance with export regulations and guidelines established by the U.S. regarding economic sanctions and embargoes on certain countries.
  • Obtain transportation quotes and arrange services when special requirements are needed (e.g., oversized cargo and/or priority transit times).
  • Review incident reports (overages and/or shortages) with the materials receiving department.
  • Request technical information and/or required documentation for importation or material entry (e.g., material certificates, NOM compliance, etc.).
  • Ensure all required documentation is available prior to shipment arrival (Invoice, Packing List, Mill and/or Quality Certificate, Certificate of Origin).
  • Process USMCA Certificate of Origin (CoO).
  • Submit AAIPS entries.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Perform other duties as required related to the position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in import logistics or customs operations.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations and foreign trade systems (ANA, VUCEM).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills.
