JOB DESCRIPTION
Title : Asst. Manager / Deputy Manager – EHS
Department : Operation
Location : Chennai
Reports To : National Lead EHS
Role Objective:
The primary function of the Environmental Health and Safety will be to create a strategic partnership with Plant Manager/department leaders to assist in identifying workplace safety and health risks and implementing control measures that align with site and corporate initiatives. The Deputy Manager EHS is responsible for knowing, interpreting, and appropriately applying all applicable Central, state, and local laws, statutes and regulations.
Lead EHS site audits, risk assessment activities and implement corrective action promptly to ensure company and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- In partnership with operational leadership, set up and maintain safety training programs in all applicable safety competency areas. Assure training is appropriately documented, reviewed constantly to assure compliance and timeliness and maintain appropriate written records/ documentation of such training being conducted and reinforced.
- Perform facility safety audits on set frequency to ensure company and regulatory compliance.
- Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices along with Safety Celebrations and Safety campaigns.
- Preparation and presentation of safety training programs and orientation information.
- Test and inspect safety equipment such as PPEs, eyewashes, showers, fire extinguishers, maintain fire hydrant systems. etc.
- Guide and promote safe work performance by enforcing safety policies, implementing safety campaigns, and training managers and employees in safe practices and first aid.
- Comply with State, Central and local safety regulation by interpreting standards, enforcing adherence to regulations, completion of regulatory documents and advising management on needed actions.
- Eliminate or minimize hazardous situations by developing and recommending safety policies and procedures to senior management.
- Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, unlocked doors, etc. Notify emergency services in case of fire or if in the presence of unauthorized persons.
- Inspect and ensure that the ETP / STP / WTP are functioning well and all relevant standards are being met.
- Ensure that all waste material is stored / removed in a safe and environmentally sound manner. With proper documentation. Notify higher management of any discrepancies that might arise.
- Responding to and investigating incidents and transfer learning to other sites.
- Train and communicate the importance of safety to all the existing and new employees and be able to strongly recommend and influence safe work practices.
- Responsible for EHS documentation related to pollution control board, factory inspectorate office, PESO and other relevant statutory bodies.
- Complete and file all state and central Government documentation as required.
- Work closely with all technical, administrative, R&D staff and all other departments of the organization.
- Assist in the development of the annual EHS budget and track performance against the plan.
- Writing reports and making presentations on safety and security to higher management.
- Developing monthly MIS of EHS progress against key KPIs and review with management.
- Develop plan for Ergonomic work assessment and make plan to improve ergonomics in working area and shop floor.
- He will also accountable and contact point for site crises management and emergency situation.
- He is responsible for the emergency response onsite and offsite including distribution incident.
Competencies
Functional
- Good knowledge of manufacturing environment and man machine interfaces
- Good knowledge on Safety and Environment local regulations.
- Good knowledge on ETP/STP and effluenet water treatment.
Behavioral
- Excellent interpersonal skill.
- Good English written and verbal communication capability
- Good knowledge computer and quick ERP learner. Proven experience in Axapta or ERP system preferred
- Excellent functional co-ordination capability.
- Strong convincing capability and leadership.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree in Chemistry(Science)/ Diploma/Degree in chemical or mechanical engineering with Diploma in Safety is a must requirement/
- Strong communication and persuasion skills.
- Minimum educational qualification required is Bachelors in science degree or Masters in Science/ Engineering background preferred.
- Willingness to travel across the country
- A minimum of 8-10 years prior relevant experience.
