Job Description
About the role
We are looking for a Management Accountant for our growing finance function. This is an exciting position that will quickly grow in responsibility and will be key in delivering a step change in value and support to the business. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of applicable experience, is a high-performing, ambitious individual who excels at reconciling and resolving accounts, implementing processes and creating robust reporting. This role is ideal for someone who is hardworking, keen to learn and passionate about challenging themselves and learning new skills.
Whilst this role is remote, there might be an occasional requirement to come into our London office once a month if necessary.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flows, and variance analysis
- Create and develop monthly management reporting and commercial finance analysis, providing insight and analysis into commercial performance
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounts processes and internal controls
- Offer professional judgment on financial matters and advise on ways of improving business performance
- Interpret and communicate financial data to non-financial stakeholders
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and regular forecasting
- Reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Generate reports on debtors and creditors, and provide regular updates to internal stakeholders on the status of aged items
- Maintenance of the fixed asset register
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and annual report preparation
- Assist with the preparation and submission of tax returns (VAT, Corp tax, including R&D)
- Take on increasing responsibilities over time, with a clear pathway for professional development
- Line management and professional development of the Assistant Accountant, and an overview of the Accounts Payable process
- Ownership of commercial pricing models, working with sales on commercial bids.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Exceptional numerical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience as a Management Accountant, or similar, with a minimum of 2 years of financial management experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and compliance.
- A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred
- Part-qualified in ACCA/ACA/CIMA or equivalent with the intent to qualify fully
- Strong Excel skills to include pivot tables, VLOOKUP and SUMIF formulas at a minimum and an understanding of data extraction
- Strong analytical skills and highly detail-oriented, with a commitment to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records
- Innovative and proactive approach to questioning norms and driving change within the finance department
- Strong problem-solving skills and initiative
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities
- Organised and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Comfortable in a flexible and adaptable work environment, ready to adjust to changing demands.
- Hands-on, can-do attitude and able to act as deputy to the Finance Director.
