Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the engineering, design, and development of body closure sheet metal and hinging systems. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between initial concept and final production, ensuring all systems meet rigorous functional and manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Ownership: Lead the engineering, design, development, timing, and release of body closure sheet metal and hinging systems.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Manage packaging requirements with adjacent departments, including electromechanical, electrical, lighting, and trim.

  • Validation & Compliance: Work closely with virtual validation groups to ensure the CAE scorecard and manufacturing feasibility goals are met.

  • Documentation: Maintain and update critical engineering documents, including DVP&R and DFMEA.

  • Supplier & Quality Management: Support and manage suppliers for quality actions and Vehicle Operations (VO) activities.

  • Technical Communication: Communicate product status and competitor benchmarking data to management; align with Architecture, Vehicle Concepts, and Program Science teams.

  • Collaboration: Work with local engineering teams and PDO using iterative models to meet all packaging and functional objectives.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related program from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter.

  • Domain Expertise: Intermediate to advanced experience in design/development for Body-in-White (BIW), Closures, or Exterior Systems.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Materials Knowledge: Experience with composites, composite production, and steel/aluminum forming processes.

  • Manufacturing: Hands-on BIW in-plant launch experience.

  • Technical Standards: Deep understanding of high-strength steels, weld parameters, and GD&T.

  • Quality Tools: Proven experience with DFMEA and DVP&R processes.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to support meetings throughout North American (NA) business hours.

  • High level of collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams and iterative modeling environments.
