Job Description

Why S&W?

At S&W, we believe a great early career experience is about more than just the work you do. It's about the people you learn from, the relationships you build and the experiences that help shape your future. Whether that's developing new skills, growing your confidence or celebrating success with your colleagues, you'll be part of a team that supports you to be yourself and succeed.

During your internship, you'll contribute to meaningful work, learn from experienced professionals and gain first-hand insight into life in professional services.

As one of the UK's fastest-growing accountancy and advisory firms, we offer a balance of opportunity and support. Your internship is a chance to experience life at S&W first-hand, get to know our people and culture, and explore what a future career with us could look like.

We see our interns as future talent, which is why many go on to secure a place on one of our Graduate programmes after completing their degree.

No previous experience in accountancy, finance or professional services is required. We're looking for people who are curious, motivated and eager to learn. What matters most is your attitude, potential and willingness to get involved.

Introduction to the Restructuring and Recovery Services team at S&W

S&W’s restructuring and insolvency practitioners combine deep technical expertise with extensive experience to support a wide range of clients facing financial and operational challenges.

Our team helps maximise value for stakeholders through advisory services, business and debt restructuring, and formal insolvency procedures. We work closely with businesses, creditors and other key stakeholders to assess circumstances, identify practical solutions and support successful outcomes.

What will you be doing?

As an Intern within our Restructuring and Recovery Services team, you will support experienced colleagues on a variety of insolvency and restructuring engagements while gaining an understanding of the regulatory and legal framework that underpins our work. You will develop knowledge of insolvency processes, statutory requirements, risk management procedures and industry best practice.

Throughout the internship, you will gain valuable insight into life at S&W, build your professional and commercial skills, expand your network and develop a deeper understanding of career opportunities within Restructuring and Recovery Services.

You will join as part of an intern cohort and benefit from support and guidance from colleagues across the business, giving you the opportunity to learn from professionals at different stages of their careers and build relationships that extend beyond the programme.

Your responsibilities will include:

Client contact

  • Support occasional client contact in conjunction with more senior staff.
  • Deal with creditor and other enquiries relating to insolvency cases.
  • Deal with external agents and advisers (primarily lawyers) on routine matters.

Technical

  • Perform work in line with legal and best practice requirements.
  • Maintain physical and electronic records for formal insolvency cases.
  • Develop an understanding and appreciation of the key commercial aspects of insolvent companies' businesses.

Organisational

  • Assist with the management of case portfolios in compliance with statutory, regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Report to senior staff on a regular basis, including assisting with the preparation of monthly case reviews.
  • Liaise with more senior staff regarding issues and support the implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Review information and analytics to support case strategy and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the collection and sale of assets with the support of agents.
  • Draft documents required for statutory processes (for example, notices of general meetings, circulars to creditors and progress reports).
  • Draft routine case correspondence.
  • Support clerical tasks, including file maintenance, responding to telephone and email creditor enquiries, and preparing minutes.

To Be Successful in This Role

You'll be someone who:

  • Is naturally curious, eager to learn and open to new challenges
  • Communicates well, builds positive relationships and collaborates effectively with others
  • Has a keen eye for detail and enjoys solving problems
  • Is organised, willing to take ownership and able to manage competing priorities
  • Is interested in understanding how businesses operate and the challenges they face

You'll also need to:

  • Be available for the full duration of the internship programme (28th June – 6th August)
  • Be in your penultimate year of university
  • Be on track to achieve at least a 2:2 degree in any discipline
  • Have a minimum of 112 UCAS points from your top three A Levels (or equivalent), excluding General Studies
