Job Description

The Senior Communication Engineer is responsible for the administration and day to day operation of STCU unified communication systems and services provided to employees and members. This position also performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, automation, scripting, and support. The Senior Communication Engineer is expected to partner with key stakeholders to ensure effective utilization of new and existing functionalities provided by unified communication systems.

Core Job Requirements/Outcomes

  • Deliver support for communications technologies to employees by providing expertise and mentoring related to telephony, video and text-based communications systems, and the Contact Center application and associated services, as well as handling escalated tickets for these technologies.
  • Ensure a stable communications environment by following established procedures, creating documentation to ensure current best practices within the organization can be followed, and by coordinating maintenance with other teams and users when applicable.
  • Build a secure communications environment by maintaining an awareness of the security implications of changes you are asked to make within the environment and making recommendations to enhance the overall security posture of the organization. Provide vulnerability and patch management duties as necessary,
  • Successfully deploy new enterprise communication solutions, including Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) and Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) systems, by adhering to current IT standards, developing system and flow diagrams, and ensuring disaster recovery processes have been established for each new application.

Other Essential Functions

  • Provide expertise to business units on how voice and video can enhance the member experience.
  • Automate tasks and processes for efficiency using automation software, PowerShell, SQL, and other methods
  • Ensure that monitoring and alerting exists for all systems when they are not within documented specifications. (ex. Bandwidth overutilization or server disk space limits)
  • Partner with other internal and external groups to develop, test, and support third-party integrations with the core communications platform(s).
  • Contribute to and support a positive work environment to ensure an effective, high preforming and cohesive team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Share responsibility in providing after-hours support of communications and networking infrastructure through periodic on-call rotations.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline or specialized training from an accredited vocational school.

Job Experience: Minimum four years’ experience working with large contact center UC environments, with demonstrated understanding of the day to day needs of an enterprise contact center as well as the impacts these systems have on the member/customer.

Software Skills: Experience with various communications technologies such as IPPBX, SMS text messaging, chat and video conferencing solutions. PowerShell or other programming language experience preferred. Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. This role is part of an on-call rotation within a one hour or less response time.
