Job Description
**This position is contingent upon award of contract**
SOSi is seeking an Effects Planner. The Effects Planner facilitates and coordinates all aspects of operational-level planning, synchronization, and integration. They provide planning support encompassing analytics, assessments, target development, and planning advocacy for subordinate commands. Planners refine and align priorities with national-level objectives, ensuring operational goals are nested within strategic directives. They draft special operations related documents, including plans, orders, and authoritative guidance, and advise military staff on their interpretation and application.
Essential Job Duties
- Rally cross-functional planning teams to orchestrate effects into a cohesive operational plan that actually works.
- Facilitate working groups to untangle resource conflicts, timing misalignments, and competing objectives between different subordinate commands and staff sections.
- Dig into analysis to uncover key vulnerabilities and critical nodes within a target system that, when addressed, will deliver the desired effect.
- Develop Measures of Performance (MOPs) and Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) that tell the real story of whether an operation is hitting its intended targets.
- Champion the operational-level target development process, nominating specific targets or actions that directly support the overall campaign plan.
- Analyze ongoing operations and deliver formal assessments to leadership that cut through the noise and show what's actually working.
- Translate national-level strategic guidance into operational reality, ensuring all plans and priorities ladder up to and support strategic directives.
- Refine, prioritize, and champion the plans and resource requirements of subordinate commands during higher-level planning conferences.
- Craft and staff major special operations documents—think CONPLANs, OPORDs, and formal planning guidance—that are clear, compelling, and actionable.
- Become the go-to subject matter expert on published plans, guiding military staff and subordinate units through interpretation, application, and intent.
- Prepare and deliver briefings to senior leaders that break down proposed or current plans, highlighting intended effects and synchronization in ways that resonate.
Qualifications
- Active in scope TS/SCI with ability to obtain a CI Poly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Government, International Affairs/Relations, or closely related discipline;
- or 12 years of military experience as a Planner
- Minimum 10 years of combined work-related experience with minimum of 5 years since 2020 as a Planner at the O-6 or higher level within USSOCOM Enterprise or Interagency equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional planning teams.
- Experience facilitating working groups to deconflict resources, timing, and objectives between different subordinate commands and staff sections.
- Ability to identify key vulnerabilities and nodes within a target system that, if acted upon, will produce the desired effect.
- Skilled at translating complex operational problems into clear, concise briefings and reports that directly inform planning and operations.
