SNV has been present in Nigeria since 2020 and is currently seeking applicants for a full-time position for Energy Advisor on one of its Energy Projects. The position is based in Abuja.
Overview of the Position
The Energy Advisor would be responsibility for plays a pivotal role in advancing the integration of renewable energy solutions focusing on the productive use of energy to enhance value addition, and rural livelihoods through providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement support. The Advisor will adopt a systems transformation approach and acting as a convener to bring together diverse stakeholders. The Advisor gives input to Project Managers and project partners in order to meet the agreed objectives and realise successful interventions. The Advisor identifies opportunities and areas for improvement, to ensure quality delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Energy Advisor will include the following:
- Advisory Services: Acts as technical expert for the Project Managers and aim to create an enabling environment (by sharing knowledge, understanding stakeholders and environment) for the implementation of a project, for the project to meet its objectives. Ensures, monitors progress and reviews quality of own expertise and ensures client support and satisfaction during projects.
- Project and process development: Identifies and proposes technical process improvements to the project team. Acts on improvement areas within the local internal organisation and processes and gives feedback. Ensures lessons learned are applied in daily practice.
- Positioning: Identifies and analyses market opportunities and threats and ensures relevant colleagues are informed. Actively participates in strategic positioning meetings and acts as a knowledgeable face of the SNV organisation to the client. Analyses, understands and develops (local) networks with relevant stakeholders, identifies new clients.
- Business development: Builds and maintains effective relationships with the team, external partners and the donor(s) by ensuring a high level of SNV visibility and branding. Signals and acts on potential for positioning, innovation, upscaling and potential follow up on projects. Timely recognizes and analyses threats and makes sure relevant colleagues are informed.
- Analysis & Reporting: Ensures collection, consolidation and review of project information, according to SNV’s monitoring and evaluation guidelines. Analyses and provides advice to management how to incorporate the new insights/best practices into the organization’s policies and practices.
- Knowledge Development: Contributes to internal and external knowledge development, by full documentation and sharing of project insights and results. Develops knowledge by attending workshops and conferences. Ensures lessons learned are shared and applied in daily practice. When applicable can be appointed as (national) focal point of an expertise network.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Energy Management, Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- 5-7 years of substantial experience in development work, with demonstrated experience in solar energy, biodigesters, clean cooking solutions, and related technologies, and a strong focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
- Relevant technical expertise and a strong understanding of the energy sector, including considerable experience in energy service delivery and, preferably, market development for renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and appraising business cases; understanding energy market systems development; introducing energy technologies; and engaging with the private sector, particularly in Nigeria and West Africa.
- Experience conceptualising or contributing energy intervention projects and managing stakeholders convening and capacity building
- Strong communication skills (both Oral and written)
- Ability to lead and steer initiatives with an entrepreneurial mindset.
