Job Description
The primary role of the driver is to provide logistical support to the various SNV Netherlands Development Organisation offices in any place in Uganda, by driving assigned cars and keeping them in good condition and ensuring safety of assigned passengers and or materials in transit.
Maintaining vehicles in good condition.
- Maintaining the assigned SNV Netherlands Development Organisation vehicles in good condition by checking that all the parts that are supposed to be serviced are well maintained and checked regularly to avoid break down of the vehicles.
- Ensuring that any accidents or damages to the car are reported quickly so that they can be fixed as soon as possible.
Documentation while executing duties.
- Log all movements from start to end of the journey as well as fuel top ups on the log sheets provided by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.
- Carry out weekly vehicle inspection and maintain proper documentation of the same on the weekly checklist, which will be tracked by the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation logistics officer for maintenance purposes.
Adhering to Safety and security regulations.
- Be vigilant to ensure that he / she is following the road safety guidelines and respecting the speed limits to avoid accidents.
- Ensure that all staff moving are following the set regulations by wearing safety belts and ensure right number of passengers is on board.
Technical Maintenance
- Regularly check and maintain the main maintenance areas (e.g., oil, tire pressure etc.), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives,
- Conduct repairs to the vehicles and/or send for repair, in consultation with the supervisor in case of complex and/or costly repair
Additional activities
- Execute activities to support others based on request, like assist in logistic field activities.
Qualifications
- A minimu of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
- Valid driver’s license with Classes A, B,CM,DL
- A minimum of 5 years driving experience in a medium sized organization
- Defensive driving experience for risk management
- Knowledge of Ugandan Traffic Laws and regulation
- Effective verbal, presentation and listening communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain composure always.
- Computer knowledge is preferred.
Additional Information
Terms of Appointment
- This is a full-time position based in Lira, Uganda. The contract duration is 2 years, with possibility of extension. The desired starting date is February 1, 2023. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, including a competitive secondary benefits package.
