Are you mechanically minded, enjoy working with your hands, and looking to build a long-term trade career? SGS, Gidlow, is seeking a motivated Mechanical Apprentice to join our team and gain hands-on experience. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining a nationally recognised trade qualification while working alongside experienced tradespeople on geothermal and industrial equipment.
We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assist with the maintenance, repair and installation of geothermal pipelines, valves and steamfield equipment.
- Learn practical fitting and mechanical skills while working alongside experienced tradespeople.
- Support planned maintenance and outage activities to help keep operations running smoothly.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Learn to read technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Carry out inspections and quality checks under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and training activities.
- Follow all health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Actively participate in apprenticeship training and work towards achieving your trade qualification.
- Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine interest in mechanical trades, engineering or hands-on work
- Previous experience in a practical role
- Completion of a mechanical, engineering or trade pre-trade course would be highly regarded
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn
- Positive attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to working safely and following procedures
- Full New Zealand driver's licence
