Job Description
Schedule and Carry out Audits and Inspections in accordance with the Criteria Document using the Common Performance Evaluation System (CPES) as agreed with CRU. Inspection types are normally but not limited to routine, follow up, spot, application, disciplinary, complaint and special. Inspections and Audit findings are to be uploaded to the Scheme Information Management System (SIMS). Prepare reports outlining the findings of Audits and Inspections. Audits and Inspections are to be risk based and are both announced and unannounced. Inspectors should be available by phone or email to answer technical queries and provide clarification to the registered contractors regarding the operation of the SSB schemes. Assist the SSB Administration and Certificate validation team with queries and clarifications. Voice Mail should be activated during Audits, Inspections, and meetings. SSB inspectors should be available for meetings, training, upskilling and any other duties as directed by management.
Responsibilities:
- Inspections and Audit findings are to be uploaded to the Scheme Information Management System (SIMS).
- Undertake gas works related investigations of individuals or companies where complaints have been received regarding gas works undertaken.
- Engaging proactively as a team member with the schemes audit and inspection programme and the regulatory framework in which it operates.
- Meeting targets set for Scheme programs.
- Carrying out annual audits and inspections of registered Gas Installers (RGIs) as assigned by the Inspection Manager / Gas Compliance Manager and complying with relevant legislation and standards
- Providing support to RGIs, with a strong emphasis on correcting Non-Conformance behavior in areas where compliance is sought within the time close-out targets set.
- Representing the Scheme as an inspector of the Safety Supervisory Body (SSB), maintaining a professional manner and good communication practice in all dealings with Registered Installers, their clients and customers and members of the public
- Prioritize and conducts inspections requested by the Compliance Manager in line with the risk-based approach within the RGI Scheme Inspection Programme.
- Prepare reports outlining the findings of audits and inspections relating to Complaints and Disciplinary investigations.
- To use handheld information technology in the accessing, entry and analysis of audit and inspection information, forms and tables and the scheduling and prioritization of weekly audits and inspections
- Record all inspections using the G10 inspection form, with findings clearly recorded.
- Promoting gas safety.
- Taking personal responsibility for maintaining qualifications, technical knowledge and expertise to meet and exceed regulatory and competence requirements set for the role and duties of an inspector engaged in a national programme.
- To ensure customer facing branding requirements are always applied.
- Keep registered inspectors up to date with CRU regulatory requirements
- Attends scheme and industry events as required to maintain professional presence and engagement within the gas industry.
- Attend meetings as required
- Carrying out non-annual inspections as required – compliant inspections, special inspections, spot inspections, follow up inspections, change of contractor inspections.
- To implement our information technology, information security privacy and confidentiality policy requirements
- Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Code of Integrity, and act in accordance with SGS Ireland’s Equality & Diversity Policy.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications
- Minimum 5 + years’ relevant experience in a regulated gas related industry
- Advanced Craft Certificate in Gas Fitting, Electrical, Plumbing, Refrigeration or equivalent
- Possess a Domestic Gas Safety Award (DGS) or equivalent
- City & Guilds (7317 A1/A2) Certificate, or equivalent, in Assessing Candidates using a range of methods (formerly D32/33), desirable but not essential
- Full clean driver’s license
- Valid Manual handling and Safe Pass certification
Additional Information
The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes/skillsets:
- Fully conversant with the I.S.813, I.S. EN 1949, I.S.820 Standards.
- Good understanding of the National Building Regulations, Manufacturers Specifications and Health & Safety Legislation.
- Strong technical knowledge of Domestic, Non-domestic, and LPG gas systems and installations.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
- Be capable of registering as an RGI
- Process good judgement and fairness in applying the code
- Must be dependable
- Confident in assessing risks
