We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Field Technician I to support regulatory compliance sampling and technical services primarily aboard commercial vessels, harbor craft, and industrial waterfront facilities, as well as at land-based sites. This is a hands-on field position that combines regulatory compliance, sampling, and technical services in active ports, terminals, industrial facilities, and aboard ocean-going vessels. Occasional travel is required to support customer projects and operational needs.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on field work, is comfortable working in active industrial and maritime environments, and is interested in developing technical expertise across a broad range of sampling and vessel support services. Successful candidates will have opportunities to expand their responsibilities and develop additional technical skills as training progresses.

The Field Technician I will coordinate with vessel crews, port agents, and site contacts to schedule attendances, conduct sampling and field activities, and transport collected samples to the laboratory for analysis. The role requires strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), chain-of-custody procedures, and established sampling protocols to maintain sample integrity, prevent contamination, and ensure accurate, defensible results. Candidates must be comfortable working safely in port, industrial, and field environments while following all applicable safety protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of applicable experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), sample handling, and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working aboard vessels, in industrial facilities, and in active port environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules to support vessel operations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental compliance, wastewater treatment, industrial water sampling, or field services.
  • Familiarity with vessel environmental regulations, including VGP, IMO, ballast water, or related programs.
  • Experience working in industrial facilities, terminals, shipyards, refineries, power plants, or utility operations.
  • Experience performing field sampling, equipment inspections, sensor calibration, or emissions testing.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn new testing and inspection procedures.
  • Previous maritime, military, Coast Guard, merchant marine, or port operations experience.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, engineering technology, marine transportation, or a related technical field.
