Job Description

Join a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, and play a key role in supporting essential environmental laboratory services.

SGS is seeking a detail-focused and organised Sample Receipt Officer to join our Portsmith team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, accuracy and teamwork in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will help ensure soil, water and air samples are received, logged, stored and prepared correctly so our laboratory can deliver high-quality, timely results for clients.

What you’ll be doing

  • Receive, identify, label and store samples accurately.
  • Prepare and package samples for testing or courier dispatch.
  • Conduct sub-sampling where required while maintaining contamination control.
  • Monitor and record sample storage fridge temperatures.
  • Follow laboratory QA/QC, safety and compliance procedures.
  • Assist with safe sample disposal and general housekeeping.
  • Support smooth day-to-day sample log-in and laboratory operations.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Good communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • A positive, reliable and team-focused approach.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn in a busy laboratory setting.
  • An understanding of safe laboratory practices and QA/QC requirements.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.
  • Previous commercial laboratory experience is highly regarded but not essential.
