Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team in Shah Alam, Malaysia. In this pivotal role, you will be mainly responsible for providing comprehensive tax advisory support to the business and finance functions whilst ensuring full compliance with Malaysian tax regulations, statutory governance and accounting standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of tax accuracy, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting.
- Advise the finance function and business teams on tax matters, including new tax updates, regulatory developments, and their implications for the organization
- Ensure all tax processes comply with current Malaysia tax requirements, including direct, indirect tax and e-invoicing requirements
- Compile, prepare, and file tax computations and corporate tax returns for both direct and indirect taxes, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to relevant Malaysian tax authorities
- Analyse financial data and tax positions to support management decision-making and strategic tax planning
- Identify and explore tax incentive opportunities and advantages available to the company, providing recommendations to maximise tax efficiency
- Maintain and reconcile tax-related accounts and records, investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Liaise with external parties, including tax consultants and government agencies on tax compliance matters
- Assist in liaising with the Company Secretary and handle statutory matters to ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements and regulatory obligations
- Handle Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) requirements, including the compilation and calculation of MFRS 16 lease accounting, ensuring accurate financial statement presentation
- Utilise accounting software and tax systems to record, process, and report tax transactions and financial data accurately
- Assist in the preparation of tax audit documentation and support external auditors during tax audit engagements
- Supervise junior accounting staff and provide guidance on tax procedures, accounting standards, and best practices
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of tax processes, financial controls, and internal procedures
- Any other duties that may arise from time to time which may fall under the parameters of this role, to which the incumbent has the necessary skills and competencies.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience in accounts management or a similar finance role
- Demonstrated expertise in tax compliance and preparation within the Malaysian context
- Professional accounting qualifications or certifications (such as ACCA, ICAEW, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in accounting software packages (such as Oracle)
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Experience in tax planning and advisory services
- Strong organizational and time-keeping abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Familiarity with audit procedures and financial reporting standards
- People management and supervisory experience
