Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer I designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. They conduct mechanical property tests, overseeing machinists, designing fixtures, and assisting in finite element and structural analysis work.

  • Develop specifications for new parts, modifications, or prototypes.
  • Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products.
  • Utilize software tools to design, model, analyze, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders.
  • Conduct testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collect and analyze data for improvements.
  • Conduct mechanical property tests to evaluate material characteristics and performance under different conditions.
  • Oversee machinists and technicians in fabricating and assembling mechanical components and systems.
  • Design fixtures and tooling for testing and production processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist in finite element and structural analysis work to optimize product design and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions and address engineering challenges.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders on mechanical engineering matters.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements in all mechanical engineering activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering field
  • At least 0-1 years’ experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • E.I.T. would be considered an asset.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of engineering and design core principles.

  • Understanding of engineering workflows, design cycles, and basic project management concepts (e.g., schedules, deliverables).
  • Ability to generate creative design or process solutions that meet engineering, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Proficiency with modeling tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo; Exposure to simulation/analysis tools like ANSYS, MATLAB or FEA.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication for reports, specifications, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Work effectively with engineers, technicians, and other departments, receptive to feedback and open to mentorship.
