Job Description

Our Anchorage, AK laboratory is looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join our team!  The Laboratory Analyst prepares and analyzes samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. The Laboratory Analyst works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. The Laboratory Analyst understands and applies basic analytical chemistry principles. The Laboratory Analyst always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.

Job Functions

  • After appropriate training, independently prepare and analyze samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies. 
  • Performs routine operations, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • May assist with validation and MDL studies.
  • Assists with investigation and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
  • Inputs and maintains technical information, as needed, to support the laboratory functions/operations.
  • Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.
  • Performs initial data review, verifying quality control standards met criteria and identifying samples that need to be reanalyzed.
  • Creates initial version of analytical reports.
  • Documents non-conformances and involves Senior Laboratory Analysts, Team Leads, and Laboratory Supervisor ,as needed, to ensure they are effectively addressed.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Ensures appropriate supply inventory.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline, or 2 years of relevant experience (sample prep) (Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)
  • Minimum of one year of professional ICP instrumentation experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Proficient English language skills (Required)
  • Basic reasoning and mathematical skills (Required)
  • Basic computer skills (Required)
  • Ability to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)
