Job Description

SGS North America, Inc., Suwanee, Georgia. Reviewing the design of Electrical Products against worldwide UL, EN and IEC Hazardous Locations Standards. This involves circuit schematic evaluation, electrical circuit design analysis, identification of critical components and design of test plan for every product that requires electrical safety testing;

Conduct electrical testing and evaluation on a variety of Company’s proprietary products to the provisions of United States, Canadian and other international product safety standards. This includes but, is not limited to, Hazardous location Standards such as UL 121201, UL 913, CSA C22.2 No. 157, CSA C22.2 No. 213, UL 60079-0, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-0, UL 60079-1, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-1, UL 60079-2, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-2, NFPA 496, UL 60079-7, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-7, UL 60079-11, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-11, FM3600, FM 3610, FM 3611, FM 3615, and IEC chapters in 60079 series;

Review technical reports for certification approval based on evaluation and testing performed by different teams & engineers under the ISO 17025 quality program. Such reports include Product Certification Listing Reports, Construction Review and Test Reports for U.S. / CAN and international markets; Support local certification staff by reviewing and approving projects under the ISO 17065 North America and IECEx certification Schemes;

Lead team and oversee creation of quality procedures, test procedures and work instructions;

Perform proficiency testing by demonstrating understanding of new standards for Hazardous Locations and help lab to maintain necessary competency; Give interpretation of standards for support to customers and laboratory technical alignment; Identifying / specifying equipment required for new test capabilities;

Preparing for Audits and resolving audit findings; Participate in technical committees and industry associations to keep up to date on requirements and update customers and labs with latest changes and information. Represent SGS at external technical committee and industry meetings, speak publicly at trade shows on technical topics, and publish quarterly technical newsletter;

Support customers, labs, and sales team with expertise in Hazardous location Standards such as UL 121201, UL 913, CSA C22.2 No. 157, CSA C22.2 No. 213, UL 60079-0, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-0, UL 60079-1, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-1, UL 60079-2, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-2, NFPA 496, UL 60079-7, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-7, UL 60079-11, CSA C22.2 No. 60079-11, FM3600, FM 3610, FM 3611, FM 3615, and IEC chapters in 60079 series;

Project Management - Training engineering team on product review and testing methods for standard competency. This involves mentoring new engineers on how to access a product according to the appropriate standards. This includes undertaking reporting responsibility for other engineers.

Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. 

Experience must include: two (2) yrs. experience with UL/CSA/EN/IEC Hazardous Locations Standards, NEC and CEC codes, and working with certification agencies and data submittal; two (2) yrs. experience with evaluation of and operating various industrial/ Commercial/household electrical products;

two (2) yrs. experience working with certification agencies and data submittal; one (1) yr. experience with ITE, Household, Industrial Controls, Test and Measurement Categories;

Must have been a reviewer for each of the following standards: UL 60079-0; CSA C22.2#60079-0; FM 3600; UL 698A; UL 913; UL 60079-11; CSA C22.2#157; CSA C22.2#60079-11; FM 3610; TIA 4950; UL 121201; UL 60079-15; UL 60079-7; CSA C22.2#213; CSA C22.2# 60079-15; CSA C22.2# 60079-7; FM 3611; FM 3613.
