Job Description

This position will assist the Site Leader and Assistant Site Leader with the overall leadership and supervision to all SGS employees assigned to the identified site(s).  His or Her responsibilities include all activities to ensure that all SGS and customer policies and procedures are followed and that the operations that the customer has entrusted SGS with are conducted in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner.

  • Assist with specific directions to SGS employees on a daily basis on the work activities that need to be accomplished.
  • Solve day to day production and process problems within the department. 
  • Ensuring each person within their responsibility has undergone an orientation and has sufficient knowledge for their safety and health while at work.
  • Ensuring that each person has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely.
  • Conduct daily tailgate meetings with shift employees prior to the start of work.
  • Assist in facilitating monthly safety meetings for all employees (including development of an agenda for the meetings and minutes for group wide distribution of the meetings).
  • Provide absence, vacation, and relief coverage scheduling as required in all of the areas.
  • Assist the Site Leader with administering “for cause” and post-incident alcohol screens.
  • Assist the Site Leader with timekeeping requirements for CDMS (Contractor Data Management System) and ensure weekly timesheets are submitted on time.
  • Identify process improvements and efficiencies that will benefit the customer and SGS.
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed. Could be up to 50% of the time.
  • Responsible for assisting Site Leader in ensuring all safety equipment is in place on a daily basis.
  • Assist Site Leader in conducting initial incident investigations concerning SGS operations.   
  • Assist Site Leader in ensuring proper training and certification of all employees to MOT, OSHA, TDG, MARSEC and customer guidelines.
  • Work with the customer’s processes to develop and update facility operations procedures.
  • Assist with and facilitate peer-to-peer behaviour-based observations (LPO/BBO)
  • In conjunction with the Site Leader and Human Resources, recommend and issue employee discipline.
  • Spend approximately 90% of working time in the field supporting workers

Qualifications

PROFILE

  • Education: 3 years post-secondary
  • Experience: Over 5 years of relevant work experience required or equivalent experience through education.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Previous experience in a Petroleum Refinery field would be a strong asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential. 
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
