Job Description
The team
Pricing and Performance helps generate placements by maintaining scale and efficiently matching both sides of the marketplace, with monetisation models that support that value creation loop.
The team brings together data scientists, engineers and product managers working across some of SEEK’s most important marketplace and monetisation problems.
The work spans pricing, marketplace performance, ad quality, performance management and adjacent decisioning capabilities that help SEEK balance marketplace outcomes with commercial outcomes.
About the role
As a Senior Staff Engineer at SEEK, you will be a senior technical leader with broad influence across the Pricing and Performance team.
You will influence the technical architecture, strategy and integrity of solutions across Pricing and Performance, ensuring our systems are cohesive, resilient, scalable and fit for purpose across multiple teams.
This role is about creating leverage across the team: shaping direction, raising technical standards, helping teams make better decisions, and enabling high-quality delivery across a broad and complex problem space.
Responsibilities
- Influence and evolve the technical architecture and strategy across Pricing and Performance, ensuring coherence and integrity across systems, models, data assets and ML-enabled products.
- Set technical direction for services and platforms that support pricing, ad quality, performance management and related marketplace capabilities.
- Partner with Engineering Managers and team technical leaders to solve complex cross-team technical problems and make sound long-term trade-offs.
- Support engineers and data scientists to deliver well, lift technical quality, and improve how teams build, operate and evolve systems.
- Work with the Head of Engineering, Head of Data Science and Head of Product on longer-term roadmaps, technical radars, priorities and investment choices.
- Work with other Senior Staff Engineers across the wider department to lead and drive cross-department technical initiatives.
- Act as the technical escalation point for significant architectural, delivery, reliability, and operational challenges, while driving engineering excellence through improved software quality, security practices, operational excellence, and engineering discipline across multiple teams.
Qualifications
Skills and experience
We’re looking for someone with deep backend engineering fundamentals and the ability to operate credibly across architecture, delivery, data and AI/ML-oriented systems. Strong candidates will bring many of the following:
- Experience owning technical architecture and strategy across a broad problem space, with accountability for coherence and integrity across multiple teams.
- A strong software engineering background, ideally in backend and cloud-first systems, with experience designing scalable, resilient services and platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Spark and/or Databricks, and AI/ML-enabled systems.
- The ability to influence senior technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitate difficult trade-offs and bring teams with you.
- Experience improving technical quality, delivery effectiveness and operational practices across multiple teams.
