Job Description

The Team

This Data Scientist role sits within the Artificial Intelligence Platform Services (AIPS) team. The team is structured into cross-disciplinary squads with members from Data Science, Product, and Engineering who work together to define, design, build and support end-to-end machine learning based services delivering direct value to hirers and job seekers.

Key Accountabilities

Working with highly motivated Data Scientists within SEEK’s AI team, you and your team will:

  • Build and support end-to-end products delivering value to hirers and job seekers that are powered by machine learning models
  • Bring insightful analysis to empower your team and senior partners to make impactful decisions
  • Align across functions and teams, estimate effort, identify dependencies, and collaborate to coordinate the Data Science delivery in support of the team's products.
  • Develop your team’s talent by providing technical leadership and delivery management capability. Develop a deep understanding of a niche business domain within SEEK, such as pricing, market position, or ad performance.
  • Developing a deep understanding of the data available to SEEK, and how it can influence decisions made within your sphere of responsibility.

To be successful in this highly collaborative role, you will, as part of a multi-functional team, focus on the inference components of products that help SEEK better understand the marketplace. Any given day, you might:

  • Build concise, statistically sound assessment of models
  • Help design A/B tests
  • Refine and clarify strategic thinking with data
  • Collaborate with engineers to build end-to-end AI/ML solutions
  • Collaborate with product managers to review and iterate product roadmaps
  • Suggest appropriate ML methods and explain the associated benefits and limitations
  • Support the growth of other data scientists, including validating the value, accuracy, and limitations of the assets the team builds
  • Stay up to date with emerging techniques in data science like Generative AI

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of commercial experience building and improving data-driven products
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to operate in an ambiguous environment
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms, monitoring, and model performance tuning
  • Advanced data extraction and processing skills using Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Comfort working with and around a software development team, including Git, AWS, Databricks, and MLflow

Desirable skills and experience

  • Fluent with a command line in a *nix environment
  • Postgraduate qualification in a quantitative field (e.g. Physics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering)
