Senior Industrial Engineer
- Full-time
- Employment Type: Regular (PERM)
- Remote Work Available: No
Job Description
Renesas is looking for an experienced Senior Industrial Engineer to drive productivity, efficiency, and continuous improvement across our semiconductor backend test operations at our Penang site. This role owns test floor performance analysis, equipment effectiveness, shop floor layout, and factory automation initiatives across the PZ3 and KD test floors.
The Senior Industrial Engineer is the analytical owner of test floor performance: balancing day-to-day floor support with longer-term capacity, layout, and automation roadmaps, and acting as the primary interface between Production, Equipment, Planning, and Quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze test output entitlement versus actual performance and drive structured improvement plans to close the gap.
- Track equipment OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) against target, perform root-cause gap analysis, and drive corrective actions.
- Lead test floor layout optimization to improve material flow, equipment utilization, and floor efficiency.
- Design and optimize shop floor layout, including material mobility tools (carts, AMRs/AGVs) and WIP staging areas, to support efficient flow and minimize handling time.
- Support daily shop floor planning and optimization in coordination with Production and Planning teams.
- Conduct regular audits of device UPH (Units Per Hour) to validate test time accuracy and flag deviations.
- Identify and implement factory internal process optimization opportunities across man and machine utilization.
- Drive factory automation initiatives to reduce manual intervention and improve throughput and consistency.
- Support ISO and other factory quality/compliance audits with data, documentation, and process evidence.
- Lead benchmarking activities to harmonize test floor practices and KPIs across manufacturing sites.
- Support production expansion planning and execution, including capacity modeling and line qualification.
- Coordinate equipment movement, both internal relocations and external transfers, ensuring minimal production disruption.
- Own asset tracking and lifecycle management for test equipment.
- Partner with Equipment, Quality, Planning, and Production teams to prioritize and resolve floor-level issues.
- Present performance data, root-cause findings, and improvement proposals to management.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians on IE methodology and continuous improvement tools.
Core Competencies
- Data-Driven Problem Solving - Improvement plans are grounded in OEE/UPH data and root-cause analysis, not assumptions
- Floor Layout & Flow Ownership - Test floor and WIP layouts are actively optimized, not left static
- Automation & Continuous Improvement - Shifts the floor from manual, reactive work toward automated, standardized processes
- Cross-Functional Coordination - Aligns Production, Equipment, Planning, and Quality without escalation bottlenecks
- Audit & Standardization Readiness - Keeps documentation and benchmarking audit-ready across sites at all times
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5–8+ years of experience in semiconductor backend test manufacturing, with direct exposure to industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering functions.
- Demonstrated experience with OEE analysis, capacity/UPH studies, and floor layout or process optimization projects.
- Experience supporting or leading automation initiatives on a production floor.
- Strong data analysis skills (Excel required; SQL, Minitab, or similar statistical tools a plus).
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with semiconductor test equipment and factory MES/data systems.
- Experience working within a regulated or audited manufacturing environment (e.g., ISO 9001/14001) is an advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt certification.
- Prior experience with factory automation deployment (robotics, AMRs/AGVs, or equipment integration).
- Experience working across multiple manufacturing sites or supporting multi-site benchmarking.
- Structured problem-solving training or certification (8D, DMAIC, PDCA).
- Strong project management skills with a track record of leading cross-functional initiatives to completion.
