Job Description
Renesas in Bangalore is looking for a Principal Software Development Architect with very strong python software development and software architecture experience to develop and adapt GUI test automation frameworks, testing tool libraries (HW/SW protocol and lab tool integration libraries), and detailed automated tests in a faced-paced software/hardware/firmware development environment. Requires 15+ years of experience specializing software application architecture with an eye towards test.
This role requires deep software development experience and expertise in applying and guiding team members on software engineering best practices in an AI-enabled software development and QA environment. It involves developing a robust understanding of detailed technical requirements for product software and related hardware and firmware. You will collaborate with core development teams and other QA professionals to ensure our software releases are highly reliable, performant, and bug-free prior to internal and customer releases.
Works closely with Sr. Manager - Software QA on development of testing tools, frameworks, and strategies and with the team on test automation architecture, developing test automation, collaborating on testing strategies, recommending areas for automated testing, analyzing test results, test reporting, and debugging test failures and technical issues for one of Renesas's fastest growing product lines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement test frameworks, libraries, automation enhancements, and automated tests to improve testing accuracy, speed, and coverage.
- Develop and execute comprehensive automated and manual tests and produce reports for test results, coverage reports, and detailed bug reports.
- Debug software issues related to integrated circuit functionality, analyze automated test failures, and support developers and customer-facing teams in root cause investigation of software issues.
- Utilize AI in targeted, productive, safe, and efficient ways to improve testing tools, frameworks, requirements analysis, test creation/review, and test quality/coverage while applying appropriate human-in-the-loop review and software quality best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams of application, hardware, and firmware engineers around the globe to ensure product quality meets and exceeds customer expectations.
- Handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and manage tension between timelines, quality, and features.
- Speak up, raise issues and risks, ask questions, and provide improvement recommendations for products, test cases, test automation, and team processes.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar.
Experience: 15+ years of hands-on software development experience At least 8 years of that in Python, and at least 1 year of Agentic AI software development experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Programming: Deep expertise in Python library development with HW/SW/FW. Automation framework design and development (APIs, test harnesses, 3rd-party test tool integration, protocol test libraries, programmatic integration of hardware test station equipment (e.g. web switches, DAQs, USBs, oscilloscopes, remote automation distributed testing, and more)
- AI Tools: Agentic AI software development and test automation experience with Gitlab Copilot, Claude Code, or similar
- Testing Ecosystem: Mastery of standard automation libraries and tools (Preferred experience with Desktop automation and tools like Squish, TestComplete, Ranorex, Selenium, etc.)
- Test Data management: Experience designing and implementing data management systems for large complex sets of test data.
- Extensive experience guiding and mentoring colleagues in test automation architecture, automated test design and development, AI usage best practices, including performing test case design and code reviews, test coverage assessments, and technical training.
- Testing Experience with unit, functional, integration, exploratory, and system testing involving SW/FW/HW
- Mastery of software development tools like JIRA, Git, Software QA best practices, and Software development lifecycles.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills, be a true team player ready to jump in to assist others in a friendly way, excited about learning, applying, and sharing new skills, and keeping up on the latest technologies and tools in testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional programming language beyond required Python experience. E.g. Java, Kotlin and/or ability to quickly pick up new programming languages
- Experience with electronics, microcontroller programming and bus communications, preferably in a power system, semiconductor, and/or integrated circuit domain.
- Experience in DevOps, CI/CD, HW/SW Remote Test Station design, programmatic interfaces, and maintenance
- An ideal candidate will have a combined Software QA and Integrated Circuit/Power Engineering experience,
