Job Description
Role Purpose
This Hardware Sr. Staff Systems Engineer will define and validate solutions for protection devices used in enterprise, data center, AI server, telecom, and industrial power systems. This is a hardware systems role that connects customer needs, market trends, competitive analysis, and IC development. The engineer will turn customer and application needs into clear product specifications, validation plans, reference designs, and technical material that help the product succeed from definition to customer ramp. The role requires strong power electronics knowledge, good customer engagement skills, and the ability to work across teams from concept to production release.
Key Responsibilities
- Own product definition at the system level for next generation input protection devices targeting 48 V and emerging high voltage power distribution in enterprise and data center platforms.
- Work directly with customers, field teams, product marketing, applications, design, validation, test, product engineering, and program management to capture needs, align on tradeoffs, and define differentiated product specifications.
- Analyze target applications, end-equipment trends, customer RFQs, system pain points, and competitive solutions to identify product gaps and roadmap opportunities.
- Develop product requirement documents, system architecture proposals, specification tables, datasheet content, validation plans, verification matrices, and risk/tradeoff summaries for new product initiatives.
- Drive the system validation strategy, including corner case testing, fault response validation, thermal characterization, transient load behavior, power integrity, telemetry accuracy, and customer use case coverage.
- Design, review, and debug evaluation boards, proof of concept platforms, and reference designs that show product capability in realistic server, accelerator, switch/router, storage, and telecom power systems.
- Perform lab bring up, bench characterization, silicon evaluation, schematic and layout review, failure analysis, and system troubleshooting to support product development and early customer adoption.
- Develop calculators, simulation models, design tools, application notes, user guides, training material, and reference design collateral for customers, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead technical discussions during customer engagements, design reviews, RFQ responses, roadmap reviews, and product launch activities; provide clear recommendations on architecture, features, and product positioning.
- Partner with applications engineering to support early design ins, resolve customer application issues, and help accelerate product ramp in strategic enterprise and data center accounts.
- Support NPI execution by communicating market and customer requirements, tracking technical closure, and ensuring product readiness from concept through release to market.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related discipline; bachelor’s degree with equivalent depth of relevant experience may be considered.
- 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, applications engineering, product definition, validation, or IC development for power management or analog semiconductor products.
- Strong foundation in power electronics, protection devices, high current board design, analog control loops, MOSFET/SOA behavior, and thermal design.
- Hands-on experience with lab debug and validation using oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, thermal measurement equipment, data acquisition tools, and solder/rework equipment.
- Experience reviewing schematics and layouts and working with PCB design constraints for high current, high power density power systems.
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE/PSpice, SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent tools for system modeling, power integrity, and control loop analysis.
- Ability to create high quality technical documentation, including specifications, validation plans, datasheet content, application notes, evaluation board user guides, and customer facing technical material.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical tradeoffs to customers and cross-functional stakeholders.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications / Desired Experience
- Practical knowledge of PMBus/I²C based control and telemetry, digital configuration, fault reporting, NVM based settings, and register map definition for power management devices.
- Exposure to safety, reliability, and layout considerations relevant to high-voltage or high-current power systems, including creepage/clearance, surge/transient behavior, EMI/EMC, ESD, and thermal derating.
- Programming or scripting experience for test automation, data analysis, model generation, or customer design tools using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product roadmaps, bring ambiguity to closure, align on specification tradeoffs, and build technical agreement across customers and internal product development teams.
- Customer-facing experience with hyperscalers, server OEMs/ODMs, telecom customers, or field applications teams is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of taking semiconductor products from concept/product definition through validation, launch, and customer ramp.
