Executive Summary
The Chief of Staff serves as the primary leadership partner to the Head of HWJP and plays a key role in improving how HWJP operates. This role strengthens transparency, governance, decision readiness, and execution discipline while helping HWJP achieve its objectives as a major engineering organization within HWEN.
Working closely with HWJP leadership, partner organizations in Japan, and stakeholders across the United States, India, and Vietnam, the Chief of Staff helps enable effective One Team execution across organizational boundaries.

Scope
Hardware Engineering Japan (HWJP) is the Japan site organization within Hardware Engineering (HWEN). The Chief of Staff serves as the primary leadership partner to the Head of HWJP and supports the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the HWJP operating model. The role collaborates extensively with stakeholders across Japan, the United States, India, and Vietnam, as well as Central Engineering and other partner organizations within Renesas.
Role Overview
The Chief of Staff is a senior leadership partner focused on improving organizational effectiveness, transparency, information flow, execution discipline, and decision readiness across HWJP.
Transparency is a foundational principle of HWJP.
The role serves as a bridge between HWJP, HWEN, global engineering sites, and Japan-based partner organizations.
This is not an Executive Assistant role. Dedicated administrative support exists for scheduling and calendar management.
This role achieves results through influence, collaboration, transparency, alignment, and operating mechanisms rather than through formal authority.

Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductors, hardware engineering, engineering operations, program management, business operations, strategy, or related fields.
- Experience supporting senior engineering leaders in complex global organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Professional working proficiency in Japanese, with the ability to communicate and build relationships across engineering organizations and stakeholders in Japan.

- A consistent HWJP operating rhythm is established and routinely used by leadership.
- Alignment between HWJP and HWEN governance mechanisms is strengthened.
- Collaboration with Central Engineering and global sites becomes more predictable and effective.
- Leadership time shifts from status collection to decision-making and organizational improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership Partnership
- Serve as a trusted advisor and leadership partner to the Head of HWJP.
- Support prioritization, risk management, decision-making, and organizational alignment.
HWJP Operating Model & Governance
- Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the HWJP operating model.
- Define and improve governance frameworks, leadership reviews, operating cadence, escalation mechanisms, and communication rhythms.
- Establish scalable operating mechanisms that improve transparency, accountability, and execution effectiveness.
Information Flow & Decision Readiness
- Ensure the right information reaches the right people at the right level of detail and at the right time.
- Standardize reporting, dashboards, KPIs, and execution health indicators.
- Convert complex engineering and operational inputs into decision-ready insights.
Transparency & Organizational Alignment
- Drive transparency as a core operating principle across HWJP.
- Promote proactive escalation and issue resolution.
HWEN Integration & Global Collaboration
- Partner closely with the HWEN Chief of Staff to strengthen alignment between HWJP and HWEN while sharing ideas, best practices, and operational insights.
- Contribute practical operating mechanisms, governance practices, and lessons learned from HWJP that support continuous improvement across the broader HWEN organization.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across Japan, the United States, India, and Vietnam.
Cross-Functional Collaboration within Renesas
- Build trusted partnerships with Central Engineering and other partner organizations.
- Clarify ownership, dependencies, and decision paths.
- Foster a One Team culture across HWJP and partner organizations.
Executive Communication & Office of the Head of HWJP
- Prepare executive reviews, dashboards, leadership presentations, and organizational communications.
- Coordinate follow-up on key decisions, actions, and strategic initiatives.
