Job Description
Red Wing Shoe Company is excited to announce our 2027 Internship Program! The program is designed to offer you meaningful work that will prepare you for your career. You’ll get to see first-hand how our corporate teams develop strategies and practices that support our retail and manufacturing partners, and customers worldwide.
This position is anticipated to include a mix of onsite and remote work. Hours will generally align with core business hours Monday through Friday, with Fridays often ending earlier.
Compensation is $25/hr.
What to Expect:
Our Supply Chain Finance intern will focus on improving how cost changes are evaluated across the business. Working closely with teams in Finance, Engineering, and Operations, they'll gain exposure to how product, manufacturing, and financial decisions come together while helping design a more efficient, technology-enabled approach to cost analysis.
Through the project, the intern will document business processes, analyze data, collaborate with subject matter experts, and explore the use of AI-powered tools to support decision-making. This is an opportunity to develop practical skills in process improvement, financial analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and emerging technologies while delivering recommendations that could influence future business processes.
As a Supply Chain Finance Intern, you will:
- Interview process owners and document the current standard costing and ECR impact-assessment processes, including data sources, roles, controls, approvals, pain points, and handoffs.
- Develop current-state and future-state process maps, a data dictionary, and step-by-step standard work for evaluating cost changes.
- Build a repeatable cost-impact model for material price changes, material substitutions or quantity changes, and routing updates affecting labor and overhead.
- Design and develop an agent prototype that gathers required ECR inputs, applies approved costing logic, identifies missing information, and summarizes estimated unit-cost and annualized financial impacts.
- Create test cases, reconcile results to existing calculations or subject-matter-expert reviews, document exceptions, and refine the solution based on user feedback.
- Prepare user instructions, governance recommendations, and a final presentation demonstrating the process, prototype, benefits, limitations, and roadmap for deployment.
Qualifications
We’re looking for students who meet the following requirements:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- Coursework in areas such as cost or managerial accounting, operations, manufacturing systems, process improvement, statistics, analytics, databases, or artificial intelligence is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency with Excel, an interest in manufacturing and cost analysis, and the ability to organize complex information and communicate it clearly.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, databases, ERP systems, process-mapping tools, or generative AI/agent development is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively across functions, ask thoughtful questions, handle confidential business information, and validate results before drawing conclusions.
