Company Description
Ready to turn data into a competitive edge in elite Pro Cycling? As a Senior Full-Stack Application Engineer with a data focus, you’ll build and operate reliable, high-impact applications that put performance insights, race-day tools, and scientific models into the hands of riders, coaches, and performance staff. Working within our Pro Cycling team’s central IT support function, you’ll help translate the team’s requirements into Red Bull’s Sports Data Platform (SDP)—connecting engineering with the demands of training, planning, and race execution.
At the heart of our global sports universe, the Sports Data Platform provides the technical foundation for turning data into competitive advantage. Within Pro Cycling, this means bringing applications and insights closer to the people making decisions on and off the bike—and creating technology that supports performance where it matters most.
Job Description
FULL-STACK ENGINEERING FOR TEAM AND RACE SYSTEMS
You’ll build, maintain, and continuously improve applications that support riders and staff, from performance dashboards and race-day tools to team time trial (TTT) planning solutions. Combining intuitive design with robust engineering, you’ll create tools that are easy to use every day and dependable when reliability matters most.
SPORTS DATA PLATFORM INTEGRATION AND END-USER ENABLEMENT
As the technical bridge between the cycling team and the central Sports Data Platform (SDP) team responsible for data engineering, you’ll translate team requirements into clear technical specifications. Your work will involve integrating SDP data products, including databases and APIs, into practical applications, while providing structured feedback on data quality, availability, and functional gaps to ensure these solutions meet end-user needs.
PERFORMANCE SCIENCE TOOLING
Working closely with the cycling team’s data scientist, you’ll transform scientific models—such as power/VO2, TTT aerodynamic simulation, and mean-max power—into practical, deployed tools. You’ll own the engineering side, from packaging and user interface design to deployment and operational reliability, ensuring each solution remains aligned with its scientific purpose.
APPLICATION DELIVERY AND CLOUD OPERATIONS
Reliable application delivery will be central to your role as you deploy and operate the cycling team’s applications using existing Infrastructure-as-Code foundations, CI/CD pipelines, and containerised delivery. Throughout development and operations, you’ll apply strong security practices to protect athlete and performance data.
TECHNICAL COLLABORATION AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Close collaboration with coaches, the data scientist, and performance staff will help you translate real-world needs into effective technical solutions. Staying connected to the broader SDP/APC engineering group, you’ll uphold high standards for code quality, reviews, and documentation, creating applications that are maintainable over the long term.
Qualifications
Higher education in IT or equivalent work experience
Fluency in both German and English
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in full-stack software engineering, data application engineering, or a comparable technical role
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to engage coaches, data scientists, performance staff, and platform teams, manage expectations, and translate operational needs into clear technical specifications and intuitive tools
Proven experience building production-grade full-stack applications, with a focus on reliability, usability, and long-term maintainability
Strong backend development skills in Python, FastAPI, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and REST API design
Hands-on frontend experience with React, Vite, TanStack Query/Table, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI/shadcn, and PWA fundamentals
Confidence working with SQL, BigQuery, dbt-modelled datasets, and APIs, using central data products effectively rather than creating unnecessary parallel pipelines
Practical cloud and DevOps experience, ideally with GCP, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Docker, Kubernetes, existing Terraform foundations, and GitHub Actions/CI/CD
A quality-driven engineering approach, including Git, thorough code reviews, and automated testing with pytest, Vitest, and Playwright
A proactive, hands-on mindset, taking ownership and staying pragmatic and calm during critical moments, including race-day support, while applying strong security practices
Clear documentation skills and a commitment to sustainable delivery, keeping systems maintainable for a small team and contributing to shared SDP/APC engineering standards
Early leadership experience, web scraping, third-party integrations, mapping tools (Leaflet), or BI and visualisation tools (Recharts, QuickSight) are a plus
