We are looking for a Content Editor to join our Night Owl & Daybreakers team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced journalist to drive digital audiences through engaging content for use across our Live network of regional news brands. You will play a pivotal role within the Night Owl and Daybreakers team to provide essential breaking news and other publishing support for our regional titles with a focus on early morning and evening content.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will produce and edit breaking news content accurately and at pace. You will work alongside brand teams to provide essential breaking news and other publishing support for our regional titles, from content creation to distribution and including out of hours and at weekends. You will work collaboratively with brand editors and content desks across the Reach regionals network to identify audience opportunities, customer growth opportunities, forward-planning for content events and new content areas.

You will communicate and collaborate with teams within the Reach Central Content Hub to ensure audience opportunities are capitalised upon and duplication is kept to a minimum. You will share and provide content inspiration to our regional network, using data and analytics, as well as news judgement, to create highly engaging digital content. You will use your ability to understand audience data and analytics to commission content responsively, always within IPSO standards and best practices. This role will involve working on a rota pattern, with the earliest shifts beginning at 6am or 7am and the latest ending at 11pm, and typically 1 in 3-4 weekends.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are an experienced senior journalist or current content editor with your NCTJ or equivalent qualification with a strong track record of writing and editing news content that engage large audiences. You have an excellent understanding of SEO, search, social and digital audience behaviour. You can put yourself in the shoes of our readers and find untapped audiences. 

You thrive in a live news situation and can make difficult content choices quickly. You have demonstrable digital publishing skills and knowledge of using a CMS. You have a good understanding of our regional news brands and a clear passion for local journalism.
