We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced journalist to join our new team as an Overnight Reporter. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring breaking news stories and events overnight, conducting interviews, gathering information, and writing clear, concise, and engaging news articles for a variety of our online platforms and brands. You will also play a key role in keeping our audience informed and engaged with the latest news happening throughout the night, across national and regional titles including the Mirror, the Daily Express and many more.

Shifts will be from 10pm-6am.
This role is home based and we are therefore open to candidates based across the UK.
Job Description
What will the role involve?
- Monitoring breaking news sources, including wire services, social media, police scanners, and community reports, overnight.
- Using data tools to spot trending topics we can use to reach readers.
- Conducting phone interviews with sources, including eyewitnesses, police officials, and other relevant individuals.
- Gathering information from various sources, including press releases, public records, and online databases.
- Writing well-organised and engaging news articles, adhering to style and deadlines.
- Working independently and making sound editorial decisions on a fast-paced overnight schedule.
- Collaborating with editors and other reporters to ensure accurate and timely coverage of breaking news stories.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of current events and issues.
- This role involves working overnight shifts from 10pm-6am on a rota basis.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
- Previous experience as a reporter or in a similar news-gathering role.
- Proven ability to write clear, concise, and accurate news articles under tight deadlines.
- Strong interviewing skills and the ability to build rapport with sources over the phone.
- Excellent research and fact-checking skills.
- Experience with social media and content management systems (CMS).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic and a dedication to accuracy.
- Availability to work overnight and weekends on a rotating schedule.
