General Manager, Communications

Job Description

Join Ramsay Health Care as the General Manager, Communications and play a pivotal role in shaping how one of Australia’s largest and most trusted healthcare organisations is seen, heard and experienced. This is a rare opportunity to lead the transformation of Ramsay’s communications function, evolving it from a decentralised, tactical model into a strategic, unified and insight-led capability that strengthens reputation, trust and engagement across Australia’s healthcare system. Reporting to the Group Executive People and working closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, you will shape Ramsay’s national narrative, elevate leadership visibility, and build trust with patients, doctors, employees, payors, regulators and communities. You will lead a national, multi-disciplinary communications team spanning internal, external and digital communications, driving a step-change in how Ramsay engages across both traditional and digital channels. This is a high-impact, enterprise leadership role at the centre of Ramsay’s strategy, transformation and reputation agenda.

What You’ll Do

You will lead Ramsay’s enterprise communications strategy, ensuring strong alignment between business priorities, reputation, and stakeholder engagement. Acting as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, you will also play a key role in building a modern, high-performing communications function.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading the development and execution of Ramsay’s national communications and reputation strategy.
  • Shaping and maintaining the enterprise narrative and messaging framework across all audiences.
  • Providing trusted advice to the CEO, Executive Team and Board on reputation, issues and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leading internal communications across 34,000+ employees to strengthen engagement, alignment and culture.
  • Driving the transformation of the communications function into a modern, integrated enterprise capability.
  • Leading reputation, crisis and issues management in partnership with Legal, Risk and Government Relations.
  • Overseeing external communications including media, public affairs, thought leadership and corporate reputation.
  • Strengthening digital and social media strategy, governance and engagement.
  • Leading executive visibility and positioning to enhance Ramsay’s leadership profile.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across government, industry, payors, media and community stakeholders.
  • Implementing modern communications platforms, measurement frameworks and reputation analytics.
  • Leading and developing a national, multi-disciplinary communications team.

What You’ll Bring

You are an experienced communications leader who operates confidently at executive level within complex, matrixed organisations. You have a strong track record in shaping enterprise reputation, leading transformation, and influencing senior stakeholders in large-scale environments.

  • 15+ years’ senior communications experience, including executive-level leadership roles.
  • Proven track record leading internal and external communications across complex, multi-site organisations.
  • Strong expertise in reputation, issues management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience as a trusted advisor to CEOs and executive leadership teams.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide communications transformation and capability uplift.
  • Strong leadership of multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong strategic judgement in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Broad experience across digital, media, corporate communications and internal engagement channels.

Desirable

  • Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with reputation measurement, audience insights and analytics.
  • Experience developing and delivering digital communications and social engagement strategies.

What We Offer

  • A competitive remuneration package aligned to your leadership experience, supported by a comprehensive range of benefits that promote wellbeing and flexibility.
  • A rare enterprise leadership opportunity to shape and transform the communications function of Australia’s largest private hospital operator, with direct influence across CEO, Board and Executive Leadership priorities.
  • Access to a benefits program offering discounts and privileges across leading national and global brands.
  • The opportunity to contribute to Ramsay’s transformation agenda during a period of significant growth and change.
