Job Description
Commencing June-July, a Permanent part-time opportunity is now available for a flexible, highly organised and enthusiastic medical receptionist to join our Accident & Emergency (A&E) Administrative team.
As an A&E Receptionist, you will play a critical role in delivering efficient administrative support within a fast-paced emergency healthcare environment. This position requires flexibility, strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task effectively, and excellent customer service skills.
Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Working a permanent part-time contract of minimum 40/50hrs per fortnight
- This includes working a 24/7 rotating roster, consisting of early mornings, evenings, weekends & afterhours (examples of current shift times are 0500-1300, 1300-2100, 1700-0100 and 2100-0500).
- Provide a professional and welcoming front-of-house experience for patients and visitors.
- Manage busy switchboard operations, including handling internal emergency calls and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Respond to and manage email enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Efficiently check-in patients (new and existing), process ambulance arrivals, and maintain accurate patient records and details.
- Perform cash handling and EFTPOS transactions and deliver financial consent information clearly to patients.
- Process patient billing and liaise with third parties such as Medicare, DVA and Workcover.
- Verify private health insurance coverage and prepare self-funded estimates when applicable.
- Coordinating with a large and friendly clinical staff team to ensure a seamless patience experience.
- Maintain accurate data entry across multiple computer systems while managing competing priorities and high workloads.
- Scan & manage patient documentation.
- Demonstrate the ability to multi-task efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Provide flexible administrative support across Front Reception, Emergency Reception, and Patient Services as required.
After hours requirements:
- As the sole after-hours administrative team, provide administrative support not only to the Emergency Department, but also to other hospital units.
- Process direct admissions for Maternity patients in computer system.
- Managing bed transfers/discharges in computer software as requested by the ward.
- Compile daily statistics and prepare summary reports for management review while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
What You’ll Bring
- Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster: primarily early mornings, evenings, and afterhours.
- Certificate in Medical Terminology desirable.
- Previous experience with hospital mainframe systems and strong computer literacy including proficient keyboard and MS Office.
- Previous experience as a medical receptionist.
- Adept at navigating multiple computer systems in a fast-paced setting.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to work independently.
- Skilful at completing tasks within designated timeframes.

Additional Information
- Must provide or complete a National Police Check conducted within the previous 12 months.
