Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Roll Tender to join our printing team in Houston, United States. As a Roll Tender, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our web offset printing press by managing paper rolls and maintaining press readiness.
- Load and prepare paper rolls for the automatic splicing unit of the web offset printing press
- Inspect paper rolls for defects, removing damaged areas as necessary
- Position and secure paper rolls onto the automatic splicer, threading paper through press components
- Apply adhesive strips to backup rolls and insert them into the automatic splicing unit
- Remove leftover paper rolls from the press after automatic splicing
- Operate mechanical trucks to transport paper rolls when required
- Assist with make-ready tasks such as hanging plates, examining plates, and adjusting tension
- Clean the press and its components to maintain optimal working condition
- Collaborate with press operators and other team members to ensure efficient production
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment
Qualifications
- General knowledge of offset presswork procedures and materials
- Ability to read and follow job specifications accurately
- Proficiency in making adjustments to auto splicers
- Demonstrated knowledge of paper loading techniques and splice preparation for continuous press operation
- Familiarity with press materials and operational requirements
- Physical stamina to handle heavy paper rolls and stand for extended periods
- Keen attention to detail for inspecting paper quality and identifying defects
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment
- Safety-conscious mindset with a commitment to following proper procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in printing technology is a plus
- 1-2 years of experience in a similar role within the printing industry preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with press operators and other team members
Additional Information
The pay range for this role at the noted location is $16-20 / hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, and shift.
In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime.
