Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Installs and maintains production equipment in a safe, efficient, and cost- effective manner. Performs facilities management including facility maintenance (office, production, and grounds), selection and coordination of vendors, skill training and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Acts as a work leader for the installation and maintenance of production equipment.
 

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead: Develops and leads a highly trained and motivated maintenance team to support all operations. Provides training and coaching to new maintenance technicians and inspects their work. Assists the maintenance manager/supervisor in controlling costs, fixed and variable. Performs inventory control of all repair parts and related equipment. Performs budgetary duties and forecasting for parts and equipment. Oversees and performs A-level mechanic duties. Coordinates with vendors and manages facility maintenance requirements. 30%
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Inspects machinery for potential problems on a daily basis. Documents problems and schedules work activities. Prepares maintenance work order schedules for respective shifts and responds in a timely manner to all red lights and maintenance requests on the production floor. Performs any other tasks as assigned by management to achieve overall objectives of the organization. Assists Production Technicians in resolving copy issues and other problems associated with production. 25%
  • Preventative Maintenance: Ensures cost effective control of parts inventory in accordance with corporate operations policies and procedures. Plans and implements a Quality Preventive Maintenance Program to maximize equipment life and operational efficiencies according to company and manufacturer specifications. Ensures that all equipment has the proper safety devices/protection, is safe to operate and proper housekeeping practices are implemented. Coordinates schedules, preventive maintenance plans and training with department managers. Develops and tests equipment improvements to enhance operational efficiencies and production cost effectiveness. Performs B-level mechanic duties in accordance with preventive maintenance plan. 25%
  • Compliance: Maintains the facility in compliance with local, state, and federal codes and company policies. Implements safety initiatives and ensures safe working conditions; (e.g., OSHA, Hazcom, Hazardous energy standards, machine guarding, etc.) Maintains compliance with changing OSHA regulations. Learn and follow all safety regulations and job instructions to perform primary job duties. 15%
  • Administrative/Housekeeping: Performs housekeeping duties required of maintenance staff including work area clean-up, machine, and equipment clean-up, sweeping production floor after clean-up and various other general housekeeping duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned. 5%

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Electromechanical or Machine Automation. (Preferred)
  • Associates Degree (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 - 5 years Electro-mechanical experience (Required)
  • Extensive hands-on experience and detailed knowledge of Industrial mechanical and electrical machines and systems.
  • Computer hardware and software, specifically industrial controls and related I/O's.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES

  • Powered Industrial Truck Certification, will certify onsie

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Work in a Lead capacity.
  • Broad knowledge of the Maintenance Technician field.
  • Proficient in performing production equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Able to diagnose equipment faults and malfunctions.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations.
  • Able to identify and perform Level A, B, & C equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Able to read, understand and comprehend schematics/blueprints.
  • Must demonstrate strong time management skills. Plans and organizes daily work flow.
  • Ability to organize work, people, and materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports.
  • Ability to work a schedule with call-in and overtime duties.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively utilizing the English language.

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED

  • Strong Computer literacy: Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet software.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience with Inventory Software, Manufacturing Software, and Order Processing systems.

COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS

• Communicate with plant personnel, plant leadership, various Valassis departments
(Strategic Sourcing, EH&S) and corporate engineering resources.
• Communicate with outside vendors and various suppliers, service, and maintenance
providers.
• Informs leaders and other technicians of pertinent information and communicates to
plant personnel, leadership, and other departments, as necessary
 

DECISION MAKING

  • Often make decisions in conjunction with department supervisors to shut down equipment, schedule repairs, request for service.

Additional Information

The hourly rate of pay for this role at the noted location is $36.00 - $41.00, DOE.

In addition to base pay, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
