Maritime Operator (24/7 Control Room)

  • Full-time
  • Compensation: EUR 2509 - EUR 3247 - monthly

Job Description

The North Sea doesn't take a day off, and neither do we.

Royal Dirkzwager is looking for a Maritime Operator to join our 24/7 operations team in Maassluis. This is a fully on-site position, based in our control room at the heart of the Port of Rotterdam.

If you stay calm under pressure, communicate confidently, and enjoy working in an environment where every shift is different, this could be the role for you.

What you'll do

As a Maritime Operator, you are the eyes, ears, and voice of Royal Dirkzwager. You'll monitor maritime operations, coordinate information, and respond to situations in real time.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring offshore platforms in the North Sea via VHF radio.
  • Tracking vessels using AIS, plotting courses, and monitoring routes.
  • Coordinating with the Netherlands Coastguard on maritime violations.
  • Collecting and verifying critical maritime data around the Port of Rotterdam and updating our www.ship2port.com platform.
  • Providing real-time maritime intelligence to our offshore clients.
  • Acting as a point of contact outside office hours.
  • Supporting emergency response operations at sea together with experienced colleagues.

Your onboarding

You won't be thrown in at the deep end. During your first 6 to 8 weeks, you'll complete a structured onboarding programme, working alongside an experienced senior operator while learning the systems, procedures, and responsibilities of the role.

Only when you're fully prepared will you start working independently. Many of our current senior operators started exactly where you are today.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who enjoys responsibility, works accurately, and keeps a cool head when situations change quickly.
You have:

  • An mbo+ level of education (a maritime or nautical background is an advantage, but not required).
  • Excellent command of English. Dutch or additional languages are a plus.
  • A calm, client-focused approach with strong prioritisation skills.
  • The flexibility to work a rotating 6-shift schedule. Over an 8-week cycle you'll work 27 shifts, including one standby week during which you must be available for up to 6 shifts plus 1 additional day.
  • Experience as a 2nd or 3rd Officer is a strong advantage.
  • A home within reasonable commuting distance of Maassluis, as the rotating shift schedule includes occasional short-notice call-outs.
  • The legal right to live and work in the Netherlands. Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas or work permits for this position.

What we offer
In return, you'll join a close-knit team where your work has a direct impact on maritime safety and operations.

  • A gross monthly salary between €2,509.50 and €3,247.35 (full-time), depending on experience.
  • A 30% structural shift allowance, bringing your total gross monthly salary to approximately €3,262 to €4,222.
  • 8% holiday allowance.
  • A 4% Personal Choice Budget.
  • The possibility to work part-time from 24 hours per week.
  • A flat, open organisation with short communication lines.
  • A comprehensive onboarding programme and ongoing support from experienced colleagues.
