Job Description
AZZ has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to support facility expansion, greenfield development, infrastructure improvements, and capital project execution across a network of manufacturing facilities.
This position will serve as a key resource for construction management, facility engineering, contractor coordination, and capital project implementation. The successful candidate will work closely with plant leadership, contractors, consultants, and corporate stakeholders to ensure projects are safely executed on schedule and within budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facilities Engineering:
- Support building infrastructure systems across assigned manufacturing facilities.
- Evaluate facility needs and develop capital improvement plans.
- Coordinate repairs, renovations, and facility expansion projects.
- Support utility infrastructure including electrical distribution, compressed air, natural gas, water treatment, HVAC, fire protection systems, and process support utilities.
- Participate in long-range facility planning efforts.
Construction & Capital Project Management:
- Develop and manage capital expenditure requests (CERs).
- Prepare project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Lead capital projects through planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously across multiple locations.
- Perform financial justification and ROI evaluations.
Greenfield & Expansion Projects:
- Support greenfield facility development and startup activities.
- Coordinate contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, and vendors.
- Monitor project schedules, milestones, and construction progress.
- Participate in commissioning, startup, and facility turnover activities.
- Support replication of facility standards across future expansion projects.
Contract & Vendor Management:
- Solicit and evaluate contractor proposals.
- Manage contractor performance and project execution.
- Coordinate onsite construction activities.
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety and site requirements.
- Develop strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure projects meet safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments.
- Support permitting activities and regulatory compliance efforts.
- Promote safe construction and operational practices.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience managing construction, facilities, or capital projects within industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Experience coordinating contractors and construction activities.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar capital projects.
- Experience developing project budgets, schedules, and scopes.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% based on project needs.
- Relevant field experience in industrial maintenance, construction management, skilled trades, facility infrastructure, or project execution environments will be considered favorably.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in construction science, Construction Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Architecture, or Related technical discipline.
- Certifications related to role highly desired, i.e. Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Plant Engineer (CPE), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Construction Documents Technologist (CDT), OSHA 30, Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C).
