Job Description
The Maxillofacial Department are looking to appoint a new locum consultant surgeon. We seek a colleague who can demonstrate their ability to work as part of our efficient and cohesive multidisciplinary team and interact well with consultant colleagues, local GPs and dentists. The department provides a wide range of maxillofacial services including oncology, trauma, orthognathic surgery and soft tissue pathology. The successful candidate would join the maxillofacial emergency rota supervising junior doctors on call.
The department is based within the Head and Neck Clinical Services Centre, which comprises the Departments of: ENT and Audio-Vestibular Medicine, Audiology, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Ophthalmology and Dermatology. The MFU has a team of specialists providing orthodontics, oral surgery and restorative dentistry as part of dental and surgical MDT care. We have a fully equipped MFU laboratory with highly skilled specialist technicians providing the support for rehabilitation post-surgery and complex care. Clinical support staff including nursing, technical and administration staff numbers are in place to support this post.
The appointee will join the Maxillofacial Team as a Consultant Surgeon and will be expected to participate in all aspects of department activity with particular focus on the management of Head and neck cancer patients, reconstruction and skin cancer surgery.
The post will be based at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Maxillofacial Department with a possible visiting role to St, Mary’s Hospital in the Isle of Wight (clinics and day case surgery only). Full participation in teaching, audit and research will be expected. The Trust runs a mentorship scheme which is accessible to all new consultants.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- FRCS OMFS
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or within 6 months of obtaining CCST (or equivalent) in OMFS
- Registerable dental degree
Desirable
- International /National Head and neck fellowship
Clinical Experience
- Broad clinical training in the speciality of OFMS
- Experience of free tissue transfer in the head and neck for Oral and Skin reconstruction.
Clinical Skills
- Demonstrable skills and experience of Maxillofacial Surgery
- Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy experience would be desirable
- Understanding of clinical risk management
Knowledge
- Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge
- Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice
- IT skills
- Effective, confident presentation ability
- Experience in and outside speciality
Other
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience of clinical supervision of OMFS Registrars and Dental Core Trainees.
