Job Description

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is in the exciting position to be able to recruit a competent and committed Pharmacy Technician who will work within the Digital Medicines team to support the electronic prescribing and administration system (EPMA/DigiMeds), and other pharmacy related systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure the effective implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of our digital medicines systems allowing the Trust to enhance the quality and safety of patient care.

We are looking for a pharmacy technician who has the vision and skills to translate clinical need into IT requirements. They will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff to support EPMA ensuring optimal patient care and safety when medicines are prescribed and administered.

Working within the Digital Medicines team, the post holder will support the Digital Medicines Lead to:

  • Ensure all users (prescribers, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians) receive the necessary training to use the system effectively and efficiently to help optimise clinical outcomes for patients within our care
  • Participate in maintaining and optimising the electronic stock control system, ensuring continuation of existing new medicines management and governance structures.
  • You will be a professional individual able to effectively collaborate with colleagues in a way that motivates and inspires others.
  • Work flexibly within your role, adapting to changing needs as the project transitions through development, implementation and ultimately to become business as usual.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Practicing Pharmacy Technician status – must be registered with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services with recognized underpinning knowledge qualification or General Pharmaceutical Council recognized equivalent e.g. BTEC Pharmaceutical Science.
  • Demonstrable evidence of extensive continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Experience in pharmacy IT systems.
  • Evidence of further study.
  • Minimum 2 years recent post registration experience in Hospital Pharmacy.
  • Accredited checking Pharmacy Technician

Essential

  • Proven ability to work well in multi-professional teams
  • Able to organize self and prioritize workloads appropriately and effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – verbal, written, electronic
  • Ability to work independently on sensitive and contentious issues
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the current clinical workflow and pathways in the Trust.
  • Good understanding of the current statutory and performance requirements under which the Trust operate.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Knowledge of EPMA/DigiMeds system functionality.

Experience

Essential

  • Documented evidence of dispensing competence.
  • Experience of working to formal documented procedures.
  • Experience of Patient/Customer Service contact and involvement

Desirable

  • Previous use of EPMA/DigiMeds system.
  • Previous use of Crystal Reports
