Job Description
Job Objective:
The Farm Veterinarian for Biosecurity & Veterinary Programs safeguards animal health and drives operational excellence by designing, implementing, and continuously improving the farm’s biosecurity and veterinary programs. The role standardizes biosecurity protocols, leads animal health initiatives, and delivers training to veterinary staff and farm personnel. It also supports the effective implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of Animal Health and Biosecurity Programs through policy adherence, system alignment, resource provision, documentation management, and stakeholder training, ensuring all processes remain current, efficient, and aligned with organizational direction.
BIOSECURITY PROGRAM STANDARDIZATION
- Supports the development and standardization of biosecurity protocols by developing, reviewing, documenting, and maintaining comprehensive Manuals, Work Instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to Biosecurity to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely implementation of disease prevention, early detection, and response protocols across all farm operations.
- Unify biosecurity SOPs across different farm sites. Create standardized manuals, checklists, and signages across the farms. Maintain updated versions of all biosecurity SOPs, manuals, and reference materials, ensuring proper version control and distribution.
- Coordinate with farm supervisors and operations teams to ensure uniform understanding and execution of standardized biosecurity protocols.
- Implement and monitor standardized biosecurity protocols across all farm operations.
- Conduct regular farm visits to verify adherence to standardized protocols.
- Deliver biosecurity training programs.
- Support emergency biosecurity measures during disease threats or outbreaks, ensuring standardized containment and movement‑restriction protocols are followed across all sites.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Support initiatives to enhance veterinary, animal health and biosecurity processes, ensuring improved efficiency and effectiveness across farm operations.
- Review existing veterinary, animal health and biosecurity protocols to identify inconsistencies, gaps, and opportunities for harmonization.
- Collect and analyze farm health data to identify trends, early warning signs, and improvement opportunities.
- Use diagnostic results, surveillance findings, and audit outcomes to recommend enhancements to standardized protocols.
- Regularly review and update documents related to veterinary, animal health, and biosecurity programs.
- Assist in monitoring compliance trends, identifying recurring issues, and contributing to continuous improvement plans.
- Collaborate with farm management to integrate new technologies and evidence-based practices.
ANIMAL HEALTH PROGRAM STANDARDIZATION
- Supports the development and standardization of animal health and veterinary-related protocols by developing, reviewing, documenting, and maintaining comprehensive Manuals, Work Instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to Animal Health and Veterinary Programs.
- Help design and refine preventive and treatment health programs for all production stages.
- Help oversee preventive and treatment health programs, including vaccination schedules, diagnostic testing, and disease surveillance.
- Provide support for the development and standardization of vaccination schedules, deworming programs, and routine health interventions.
- Provide clinical support for diagnosis, treatment, and case management of swine health issues.
- Contribute to creating unified treatment guidelines for common and emerging diseases.
- Aid in establishing protocols for emergency response to disease outbreaks.
- Deliver veterinary-related training programs.
- Coordinate with farm supervisors and operations teams to ensure uniform understanding and execution of standardized animal health & veterinary related protocols.
VETERINARY TRAINING & CAPACITY BUILDING
- Develop and deliver training modules for veterinarians, farm staff, and interns on biosecurity, animal health, and welfare.
- Mentor junior veterinarians.
- Deliver training sessions to farm partners with regards to veterinary, biosecurity & animal health programs.
- Facilitates creation, development and implementation of veterinary related training curriculum and programs .
- Develop visual aids for training courses to engage trainees.
- Measure outcomes from training.
- Maintain records related to the training and individually track training progress of each team member.
COORDINATION WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES
- Prepares and signs veterinary documents, e.g. Pedigree Certificate, Veterinary Health Certificate, Vaccination Records, etc.
- Prepares documents and facilitates the processes necessary to secure veterinary shipping documents and other veterinary certificates, permits or licenses.
- Coordinates with relevant government agencies to ensure smooth and seamless transactions in the shipment of hogs.
- Represents the Pilmico Farms in veterinary-related activities and other concerns.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Helps the farm management team by giving timely support and inputs on complaints, inquiries and other requirements.
FOOD SAFETY:
- Ensures execution of quality, health and food safety policy, standards and regulations within the team.
- Responsible for reporting problems related to food safety & quality management systems to identified authorities.
- Taking accountability for the effectiveness of the Integrated Management System and religious requirements
OTHER TASKS:
- Actively participate in all company programs and activities under quality improvement, safety & security, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, risk management, etc.
- Provides support in the planning and execution of veterinary-related projects.
- Prepares budget and ensures unit costs are within budget limit.
- Appointed membership to committees whenever necessary.
- Performs other tasks as may be assigned by the team leader.
Qualifications
Education:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Must be a licensed Veterinarian.
Experience:
1-2 years experience as Veterinarian in a 1,000 sow-level commercial swine farm.
License:
PRC Licensed Veterinarian
