Job Description
About this job:
This role will require strong knowledge and experience in UK and Irish products and market practices with extensive experience of Life, Disability, and Critical Illness / Serious Illness medical underwriting for individual and group businesses. Experience in any other markets would be a plus for any candidate.
Key elements :
- Working as part of our expert regional team, with responsibility for UK-IRL medical underwriting for both individual and group businesses.
- Assessment of complex Life, Disability, and Critical Illness / Serious Illness.
- Sharing expertise with colleagues, maintaining department productivity, quality, and turn-around-time standards
- Working closely with our account managers to build and maintain proactive and positive working relationships with our clients. Recommending and setting client referral limits.
- Carry out on-site underwriting auditing and process reviews for new and in-force clients.
- Work in collaboration with colleagues in other departments of the business, e.g. other medical underwriters, our claims team, our medical advisors, account managers, pricing actuaries, legal teams etc.
- Proactively support account managers for UK and Irish markets, including; tenders, product development and definition benchmarks.
- Input and contribution to our in-house medical underwriting philosophies and processes, electronic underwriting manuals and rules engines.
- Engagement in projects and improvement initiatives, as requested by leadership
Qualifications
About you:
We are seeking a Senior Medical Underwriter to join our growing EMELA Life & Health team. This position is based in Dublin with some travel required.
- 7-10 years’ experience in Life insurance/reinsurance within the medical underwriting area in the UK/IRL for individual and group business.
- Strong knowledge of Life, Disability and Critical Illness / Serious Illness products and benefits
- Professional knowledge of standard Terms and Conditions, practices, exclusions and legal standards in both markets.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, ready to deal with expert and experienced medical underwriting staff at our client companies, with an ability to work under pressure to deadlines.
- A flexible, proactive team player with a can do approach and the ability to perform on your own initiative within our defined framework
- An enquiring mind and keen to continue to learn
- Languages: English to expert level, German or French would be a plus
- Potential for progress within the team
