Job Description
The Area Superintendent takes Total Ownership, including providing leadership and management, for all drilling operations in the division. The Area Superintendent is responsible to ensure that operations are executed in compliance with all Parker and client company guidelines, policies and procedures. This includes ensuring compliance with all company, client, and provincial or federal rules and regulations.
Essential functions
- Provides visible leadership with Total Ownership attitude
- Responsible for ensuring timely execution of Parkers Operations Readiness and Assurance activities including but not limited to the following:
- Steward to Operations and Maintenance Project Management Plan
- Maintenance Build and Procedures
- Equipment Spares Philosophy and identification
- Documentation and Operations Manual(s) Development
- Development of Rig Specific Procedures
- Commissioning Support
- Plan and conduct Systems Integration Testing
- Crew Training and Competency Program execution and compliance
- Develop Operations Start up Roadmap
- Ensures drilling operations are conducted in a safe and professional manner.
- Promotes operational excellence through procedural and operational discipline.
- Responsible for supporting Operations Manager in developing and achieving the strategic plan for Atlantic Canada.
- Acts as liaison between customers and Company’s rig leadership to ensure customers’ drilling programs are safely and successfully completed, always with a focus on Innovative, Reliable, and Efficient operations.
- Provides oversight and direction to ensure project execution requirements are documented and tracked to their completion by assigning work scopes, resources, schedules and appropriately tracking and reporting progress to conclusion.
- Supports business unit and division in bids, tenders, contract amendments, and other opportunities for division growth.
- Supports local relationships (customer, vendors, and government) critical to the success of the operation.
- Manages personnel within union and non-unionized environment as required.
- Enforces, clarifies, follows and ensures strict adherence to Company policies, standards, and procedures, including those in the Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Ensures strict adherence to company, client and government compliance related policies including the Code of Conduct, East Coast Canada Procurement Narrative, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and local laws and regulations.
- Reviews and adheres to contracts to ensure company’s interests are maintained.
- Monitors and manages planned maintenance and approved capital spending.
- Responsible for inventory turnover and its maintenance.
- Oversees major personnel up staffing and down staffing.
- Responsible for ensuring timely execution of Parkers Operations Readiness and Assurance activities.
- Work directly with Project Controls in managing the Parker Project Management Plan prior to Operations.
- Steward the Parker Project Management Plan to ensure activities are completed within schedule and on budget.
- Performs additional duties, responsibilities, and special projects as may be directed.

- Education, experience, and certifications:
- High School Diploma is required.
- Should have at least 10 years of relevant work experience
- Work experience as a tool pusher or above for a drilling contractor
- Must be able to obtain appropriate Offshore certifications
- Basic Survival Training (BST)
- Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
- Installation Safety Induction
- Regulatory Awareness
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Must be able to work in Canada and the United States
