Job Description

The Fluid Management Specialist is responsible for supervision of operations to the mud mixing system, mud reconditioning system, high pressure mud system, mud drains system and cuttings and cleaning system.

Essential functions

  • Responsible for collecting, processing, treating and injecting drilling and completion fluids, drilling waste liquids and drill cuttings generated on the platform.
  • Responsible for processing drill cuttings through a fixed cuttings re-injection skid, in order to generate a homogeneous slurry within prescribed limits, before disposing of same via annulus injection.
  • Responsible for processing Water Based Mud (WBM), Synthetic Based Mud (SBM) and drill cuttings through fixed shale shakers and centrifuges (where applicable) before discharge overboard or subsequent injection via the aforementioned cuttings re-injection system. This includes sampling and analysis for residual SBM or Non-Aqueous Fluid (NAF) on cuttings as per Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for operating and maintaining Cloud 360, Portable rig vacuum, Particle Analyzer and Retort Sampler
  • Retain all specifications, manuals, procedures, work instructions, reference documents and equipment required to perform the services at the work site.
  • Ensure that Parker’s equipment has current inspections, calibration and other certifications as required by Company, Contractor and manufacturer.
  • Ensure equipment, personnel, accessories and consumables required to perform services are delivered to the work site when needed and are in appropriate condition to perform the work.
  • Demonstrate competence in sample collection and ensure representative samples are drawn.
  • Provide load out list and operational procedure to Company Representative and Parker Drilling Rig Superintendent before each job.
  • Complete offshore equipment failure reports after every tool failure.
  • Ensure that all job tickets, tools, mobilization/demobilization manifests and time sheets are prepared accurately and submitted daily for review and signature from Company Representative.
  • Organize shipment of Contractor’s equipment from work site at the completion of services.
  • Train and supervise crew members on standard operating procedures to include, but not limited to, proper operation and maintenance of the rig and environmental services systems.
  • Delegate work effectively with a clear definition of requirements and expectations.
  • Handle tubular in the derrick as required.
  • Align stand pipe manifolds and bleed off lines.
  • Monitor mud returns and fill volumes while tripping in and out to recognize signs for well control issues.
  • Announce mud weights and viscosity over public announcement and reports any system changes to supervisors.
  • Regulate and adjusts flow of mud across shale shakers, mud cleaning equipment.
  • Manage fluid transfers, monitors fluid volumes during transfer process.
  • Line up valves, hoses, hard piping for fluid transfer to and from support vessels.
  • Identify worn or damaged shale shaker screens, makes proper repairs or changes accordingly.
  • Perform isolations and LOTO procedures pertaining to any circulating equipment.
  • Manage working mud tanks and equipment, checks mud weights and properties.
  • Monitor tank levels and reports any change to supervisor while maintaining good communication with the mud engineer.
  • Operate and maintain  DDAS bulk transfer system.
  • Operate and maintain HiTec mud mixing valve alignment system.
  • Operate and maintain Pro con mixing system.
  • Perform mud pump repairs and general pump maintenance, including disassemble, reassemble or oil change and filters.
  • Mix chemicals and lines up mixing pump manifold.
  • Assemble well-control or pressure-control equipment on the wellhead.
  • Comply with platform emergency response plan or station bills during emergencies and/or drills.
  • Act as a liaison with Client Representative and the Parker Wellbore Rig Superintendent and Maintenance Lead.
  • Provide assistance to the Drill Crew, as needed, in various capacities within the Drilling operations.
  • Work collaboratively with other platform disciplines when required

  • Able to identify and understand functionality of various rig equipment.

  • Must possess basic mathematical skills (equivalent to a high school education).
  • Education, experience, and certifications:
    • High School diploma is required
    • Must be able to obtain appropriate Offshore certifications
      • Basic Survival Training (BST)
      • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
      • Installation Safety Induction
      • Regulatory Awareness
      • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
      • Well Control
    • Should have at least 10 years of work experience.
