Job Description

The Geo-Market Controller position has dual reporting lines in a matrix organization.  The solid reporting line is to the CFO organization and the dotted reporting line is the operational side of the business, namely to the VP of the GeoMarket.  From the CFO perspective, this role is responsible for a multitude of accounting activities including oversight of the general ledger, year-end audit preparation, and maintaining internal controls.  This individual will manage the financial close process while ensuring financial statements are properly recorded and presented timely and accurately.  From the Operations perspective, this role is intended to be a trusted business partner with the GeoMarket VP, to among other things, focus on operating cost management, capital discipline, and tendering/business development support.  Additionally this position engages in planning and budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.   This role may require periodic presentation and exposure to the Company’s Audit Committee, Senior Management, and other functional heads in coordinating his or her role.

Essential functions

  • Manage and control general accounting activities including proper recording of accounting transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and Company policy.
  • Supports operations, on as required basis, in the development of analyses related to revenue generating opportunities including tendering, contract bidding, re-bidding, and/or support of acquisitions and  divestitures.
  • Proactively monitor and advise on aging receivable balances to minimize DSO.
  • Review key balance sheet reconciliations and coordinate financial audits for both internal and external partners.
  • Ensure general ledger balances are accurate and monthly closes are completed within established timelines.
  • Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports, and perform variance analyses.
  • Prepare and assist in interim and annual audit requests.
  • Update documentation and actively participate in SOX efforts, policies and procedures, internal accounting control review, and cross-training.
  • Review journal entries and account analysis.
  • Coordinate implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures to facilitate process improvements for the department.
  • Assign duties and monitor quality of work, ensuring that staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and support the Company’s mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Prepare financial information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, review, and apply policies and procedures to make informed decisions.
  • Communicate cross functionally to other accounting departments as required.
  • Prepare competitive economic models for BD purposes.
  • Perform periodic financial analysis to measure the performance of the business
  • Understand the nature of the business and work with operations to prepare monthly forecasts and annual budgets
  • Prepare financial analysis surrounding any M&A activity
  • Closely manage capital (investment) plan and execution ensuring proper return metrics are being met.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or International Business is required or in lieu of degree 10+ years of experience in a similar position.
  • Should have at least 5 years of work experience.
  • Should have experience in supervising others.
  • Must have excellent PC skills to include all MS Office products with an extensive knowledge in accounting technical skills.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must be detailed, organized and task oriented to manage rapid growth and increasing demand for information and results.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and be able to make complex decisions while keeping the department’s and Company’s philosophies and goals in mind.

Physical demands and work environment
