Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

The Assistant Surveyor will work closely with TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) and SEM (Sequential Excavation Method) Surveyors to assist in performing precise surveying tasks, ensuring the successful execution of the tunnel's alignment and construction. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a large-scale tunneling project. 

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $75,000 CAD, plus additional benefits. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the TBM/SEM Surveyor in performing surveys for tunneling operations, including setting out work, alignment control, and monitoring. 

  • Support in the accurate collection of survey data, ensuring compliance with project specifications, design requirements, and surveying standards. 

  • Aid in the operation, maintenance, and transport of survey equipment, including total stations, GNSS receivers, and laser scanning equipment.

  • Ensure that all equipment is handled with care and maintained in good working condition. 

  • Assist in maintaining organized records of all survey data, including field notes, digital data, and reports.

  • Ensure that all documentation is updated and easily accessible for the project team. 

  • Work alongside the TBM/SEM Surveyor, construction teams, engineers, and project managers to provide accurate and timely survey data to support the tunneling operations. 

  • Provide essential support to the team by working rotating shifts, including nights, as required to support continuous tunneling operations. Flexibility is essential to meet the demands of the project. 

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, ensuring that all survey activities are conducted safely and in compliance with OTG's safety standards. 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Diploma or certificate in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field is an asset. 

  • Prior experience in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred. 

  • Solid understanding of survey equipment such as total stations and GNSS receivers is an asset.

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in surveying technology. 

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. 

  • Keen attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and precision in all tasks. 

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, as required by the project schedule. 

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including underground settings, and perform tasks that require standing, walking, and lifting.
