Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

The Lifting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all lifting operations on site. This includes planning and preparing lifting activities involving tower cranes, mobile cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, gantry cranes, and related equipment. The role ensures all lifting tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards. The Lifting Supervisor leads the lifting team and works closely with rigging personnel to assess conditions and guide proper execution of all lifting operations.

The salary range for this role is $175,000 CAD - $225,000 CAD, plus addititional benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure all lifting equipment and materials are maintained in safe, operable condition, with all safety devices functional, calibrated, and properly certified.
  • Enforce best practices in rigging and lifting techniques among all personnel.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of safety across all lifting activities.
  • Verify that all required permits, documentation, and approvals are in place before lifting operations begin.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment and devices comply with applicable Canadian standards and regulations in Ontario.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare upcoming lifting activities, including equipment allocation, material requirements, task scheduling, and team dispatch in alignment with site priorities.
  • Establish and implement clear procedures to ensure full understanding of lifting operations among lifting and logistics teams.
  • Develop and enforce pre-start briefings and equipment-specific checklists for each type of machinery.
  • Confirm that all operators and drivers complete required pre-shift equipment inspections.
  • Conduct regular inspections of lifting devices to verify condition and readiness before each shift.
  • Coordinate and organize lifting activities across all sites, ensuring efficient daily operation of lifting teams.
  • Closely monitor the installation and operation of major equipment such as tower cranes, crawler cranes, and overhead cranes.
  • Review and ensure strict adherence to approved lifting plans.
  • Support equipment tracking and documentation of all Ontario Transit Group lifting devices.
  • Maintain smooth team operations through proper planning of staffing, shift scheduling, and coverage.
  • Collaborate closely with site engineers to ensure alignment of lifting activities with overall project goals.
  • Perform daily on-site rounds to monitor team performance and provide coaching to improve skills.
  • Adapt tasks and responsibilities as required throughout the duration of the project.

Reporting Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily pre-start reports are completed and uploaded to the designated server.
  • Collect and submit daily reports from site teams, including personnel attendance, hours worked, and tasks completed.
  • Record hourly meters and/or kilometers of all on-site equipment (e.g., mobile cranes, heavy equipment) and provide updates to the Plant Engineer.
  • Confirm that all lifting devices and equipment inspections are completed daily and forwarded to the Lifting Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience within a construction-based Lifting Department, demonstrating a foundational understanding of lifting operations, site procedures, and safe equipment handling. Candidates with additional hands‑on exposure in heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure projects will be considered an asset.
  • Strong and up‑to‑date knowledge of lifting standards, regulations, and best practices, including safe rigging methods, equipment limitations, and compliance requirements relevant to construction environments.
  • Valid Appointed Person Certification, confirming the ability to plan, supervise, and manage lifting operations while ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and legislative requirements.
  • Proficiency in plant and logistics operations, including coordinating equipment movement, supporting site logistics planning, and ensuring efficient use of lifting assets across multiple work fronts.
  • Demonstrated engineering and supervisory abilities, with the capacity to interpret technical documentation, review lifting plans, and oversee teams executing lifting and rigging tasks safely and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling clear direction to crews, coordination with site management, and effective collaboration with engineering, logistics, and HSE departments.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, with the ability to prepare reports, maintain equipment records, track documentation, and support daily operational administration.
