Job Description

Olsson is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Coastal Engineer with expertise in coastal processes and numerical modeling. The ideal candidate will have relevant coursework or experience in fluid dynamics, water wave mechanics, coastal hydrodynamics, and sediment transport. In this role, you will apply your skills to analyze, model, and design coastal and estuarine systems. As an Entry-Level Coastal Engineer at Olsson, you will contribute to a variety of coastal and waterfront projects, developing innovative solutions to address the challenges of coastal dynamics and environmental issues. You will be instrumental in designing and implementing systems that protect and improve coastal environments, while carefully balancing human development with the preservation of natural ecosystems.

  • Candidate must have:
    • A MS/Meng from a coastal/ocean/marine engineering program
    • Coursework or exposure to one or more of the following: fluid dynamics, water wave mechanics, introduction to coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, coastal processes, wetland and estuarine environments, coastal sediment transport, numerical modeling
    • Knowledge in modeling platforms: ADCIRC, SWAN, Delft3D, Delft3D -FM
    • SMS Post processing
    • ArcGIS Post processing
    • Matlab coding and post processing abilities

 

  • Desired Qualifications but not required:
    • PhD with emphasis on Civil/Coastal/Ocean/Marine Engineering or Oceanography
    • Experience in scripting with Python, FORTRAN, or C++, along with proficiency in using one or more established scientific and coastal engineering software programs, such as MIKE 21/MIKE 3, XBEACH, BOUSS-2D/FUNWAVE, STWAVE, GENCADE, WAM, TUFLOW, FVCOM, ROMS, or ECOMSED.
    • Knowledge of USACE CEMs and ability to use design concepts in real life problems
    • High Performance Computing experience and ability to run models on Linux based HPC clusters with the ability to develop model specific batch scripting, run time post processing and performance monitoring codes.
    • AI/ML experience in coastal engineering applications. Being able to use AI/ML to cross train physics-based models is a plus.
