Job Description
The Consultant - Engineering Services is responsible for leading the underground mine engineering function at Didipio mine to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective production outcomes. The role oversees technical disciplines including drill and blast, mine ventilation, paste backfill, load and haul, and mine development while actively supporting OGPI commitment to building capability, leadership, and knowledge transfer to Filipino nationals.
This position ensures that engineering standards, systems, and processes support operational excellence while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead the underground mine engineering function to deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective production outcomes
- Oversee core engineering disciplines (drill and blast, ventilation, paste backfill, load and haul, and mine development)
- Support capability building, leadership development and knowledge
- Ensure engineering standards, systems and processes drive operational excellence
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
Work Experience and Background:
5+ years underground mining experience, preferably in mechanized and / or sublevel open stoping operations
Strong background across multiple engineering disciplines (drill & blast, ventilation, paste fill, development, load & haul)
Demonstrated leadership experience in a senior engineering or superintendent role
Specialization/License:
Professional certification/registration
Knowledge:
Advanced understanding of Sublevel Open Stoping / Long-Hole Stoping methods
Stope design principles including span, sequencing, dilution control, and recovery optimization
Long-hole drill & blast design, execution, and QA/QC processes
Paste backfill systems including mix design, strength requirements, curing, and scheduling integration
Mining cost drivers and cost control methodologies
Mine development and load and haul systems
Skills:
Strong technical design and review capability across SLOS operations
Proficiency in drill & blast optimization
Competency in mining software (Deswik, Ventsim ventilation modelling tools) and Pronto software
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex underground environments
Contractor and cost management
Abilities:
Ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team
Capability to translate mine plans into practical, executable actions
Strong commitment to visible safety leadership and enforcement of critical controls
Ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation initiatives
Strong field presence and ability to engage directly with underground crews
Ability to influence and collaborate with mining operations, mine planning and scheduling, capital projects and other relevant support functions
